George T. Duckworth passed away Sunday, September 8th, 2019, at 97 years of age. He was born November 12th, 1921, to Alec and Geeva (Kennett) Duckworth in Springerton, IL. George served a total of 8 years in the Navy. He served during WWII and the Korean Conflict. Returning home after WWII. George moved to St Louis where he married Helen Sanker in 1945 and they were married for 70 years before her passing.
Education was very important to both George and Helen. He graduated from Washington University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and from St Louis University with a PHD in Education Administration. George retired from teaching in the St Louis Public Schools in 1989 and they moved to a farm in Warren County where he was a substitute teacher in the Warren County School Districts into his late 80's. Believing in the importance of education, George and Helen set money aside to set up Scholarship Funds to make it possible for children that were unable to continue with their education after High School to be possible to fulfill their dreams.
George and Helen loved giving of their time, volunteering at the Missouri Farm Bureau, the Missouri Extension Center and the Warren County Sr. Center. They also prepared tax returns through AARP Tax-Aide Foundation and they both worked the Polls in Wright City.
George was a kind man that doted on his wife that he dearly loved. He enjoyed working hard around his farm, loved his cats and would always light up around children. George and Helen never had children of their own but they loved and treated Sheila Cleary (deceased) and Shawn McCord as their own daughters.
George will be greatly missed by their Chosen Daughter Shawn McCord and husband Mike, Matt Saak, Amy Saak, Mark and Stacey Saak and their children Sydney and Nick. Special friends Elisebeth Rodel, Mary Ackmann and Paul Pezzani and many others.
Loving Hands Hospice especially Leah Long were a great blessing to George in his final days.
A Committal Service with Military Honors will be held at Jefferson Barracks on Monday, September 16, 2019 at 10:00 AM. The funeral procession will leave Martin Funeral Home in Warrenton at 8:30 AM with the Patriot Guard Riders leading to the cemetery.

Mr. Duckworth has been a fixture in the Wright City community for as long as I can possibly remember. From substitute teaching to everytime I voted he was there always with a smile, his presence will be dearly missed by so many lives he has touched through the years in so many ways. I'm sure he is sharing his stories even now...always a favorite part of having him teach.

Mr. Duckworth worked as a sub for the Wright City High School. I enjoyed his passion for life and the stories he told me about being in the military, working for school and also how much he loved his wife. During the elections, Mr. Duckworth was there and his wife along his side until she passed away. Thank you Mr. Duckworth for being such a kind man and so happy that you were a part of my life and my children.

Mr. Duckworth was one of my childhood substitute teachers. He was such a very nice man and told our class stories. I still remember bits and pieces of them to this day.

I always looked forward to seeing Mr. Duckworth as a substitute growing up. He had the greatest stories, and a passion for teaching. So sorry to hear about his loss.

Mr. Duckworth was always so nice and understanding. A great substitute teacher who showed he cared. I always admired how he didn't get involved in the class drama or show anything got to him. Instead, he came to class, did his job and sat back and observed. He could always answer any question I had. I'll always remember him. Thanks Mr. Duckworth!
