George Henry Evans Jr.

1938 - 2022

In the wee hours of the morning of Wednesday, September 21, 2022, George Henry Evans, Jr. passed away peacefully in Harahan, LA at the age of 83 and is now in eternal rest with his Lord and Savior. George was born on October 1, 1938, at Hôtel-Dieu in New Orleans, LA, the son of George Henry Evans, Sr. and Marian Michell Evans. George grew up on Harding Street in Jefferson and attended St. Agnes School and De La Salle. He graduated from East Jefferson High School in 1957. During high school, George met Glenda Rodriguez Evans, who became the love of his life, his future wife and the mother of their three beautiful daughters: Leslie, Pam and Missy. In 1957, George began his nearly 65-year career in the seismic and geophysical industry, one of his true passions in life. He started out managing the seismic data tape library with the geophysical arm of Chevron in New Orleans, where he worked for two years. In 1959, he left Chevron to join the founder of GTS Corporation as one of the very first employees of a new start-up company that later went public on the NASDAQ. George eventually parlayed his technical knowledge of seismic data processing into a sales role at GTS, at which he exceled. While at GTS, George and his family lived in Houston, TX for six years, before moving back to New Orleans in 1976 and building their family home in River Ridge where they lived for 45 years until Hurricane Ida in September 2021. In the early 1990s, GTS experienced financial distress and eventually had to declare bankruptcy in 1993. Rather than face imminent lay-offs, George saw it as an entrepreneurial opportunity to leave GTS and start his own company. He founded SEISCO, Inc., a seismic exploration information services company, in 1992. Over the last 30 years, under George's tireless leadership as President & CEO, SEISCO acquired ownership of a proprietary nationwide database of millions of miles of onshore singlefold and multifold seismic data from over 30 oil & gas companies. In 1995, SEISCO acquired all of the assets of George's former employer, GTS. Along the way, he was truly blessed to have reunited at SEISCO a "dream team" of some of his closest friends from GTS: Earl Anderson, Jr., Hugh Marquis, Les Lambert and Bill Manschot, all of whom worked together for nearly all of their collective careers. In addition to being a successful businessman, George was a devoted family man. He relished the time he spent with Glenda and their girls, as well as the many gatherings of their large and close-knit extended family for holidays and special occasions. Later in life, he really enjoyed attending as many events as possible supporting his grandchildren in all their endeavors. Throughout his life, he enjoyed traveling with Glenda, dining out with friends, and hunting, shrimping and fishing as often as he could, which wasn't as often as he would have liked. For a few years, he was an amateur taxidermist and raised bees as a hobby, to the delight of his daughters and the chagrin of his wife. George is survived by many close family and friends who will dearly miss him, especially his beloved wife of 62 years, Glenda; and his three devoted daughters, Leslie Evans Krilov, (husband Sandy); Pamela Evans Harp (husband Jim), and Melissa Evans Dreuil (husband Emile). "Pappy" will also be missed by all nine of his grandchildren: Preston Thomas Blaum, Christopher George Blaum, Elizabeth Harp Smith (husband Adrian), Alexander Evans Harp, Victoria Anne Harp, William James Harp, Samuel Evans Dreuil, Benjamin Emile Dreuil, and Lily Marie Dreuil. George was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Susan Evans Monjure. George's six grandsons will be his pall bearers. The family would like to thank all of the health care providers and caregivers that so lovingly looked after and took such good care of George at his home in River Ridge and at The Blake at Colonial Club in Harahan following a major stroke that he unexpectedly suffered on Memorial Day 2020. A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 1, 2022, in the chapel at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home at 5100 Pontchartrain Boulevard in New Orleans, LA. Family visitation will be in a parlor at Lake Lawn from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. Burial will follow in the adjacent Metairie Cemetery.
