George J. Fortini 1928 -2013 WEST SPRINGFIELD - George J. Fortini, 84, died Tuesday at home, surrounded by his loving family. George was born in West Springfield, during a snowstorm, on November 30, 1928, the son of Joseph and Theresa (Cassani) Fortini. A lifelong resident, he was a 1946 graduate of West Springfield High School and soon after, began working at the Hampden County Probate Court, rising through the ranks before retiring in 1990 as the First Assistant Registrar. Through trial and error he became an accomplished woodworker, making many pieces for his wife and family. He played for many years in the W. Spfld. Mens Softball League and was an avid candlepin bowler. He leaves his loving wife of 60 years Leona (Young) Fortini; four children Leda Del Buono and her husband Donald, Paul Fortini and his wife Linda all of West Springfield, Lisa Camerota and her husband Michael of Wilbraham and Steven Fortini and his wife Sharon of Southwick. He also leaves fourteen grandchildren: David Del Buono and his wife Melissa, Michael Del Buono and his wife Danielle, Paul D. Del Buono, Joseph, Thomas, Edward, Matthew and Leanne Fortini, Trysten McCray and her husband Mike, Alyssa and Daniel Camerota, Nicholas and Vincent Fortini, Jonathan Roberts and three great grandchildren. A sister Eleanor DiGiore and her husband J. Anthony of W. Spfld. George was predeceased by his brother Edmond Fortini and sister Alice Lamagna. The funeral will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Church at 10:00 a.m. on January 5, 2013, followed by burial in St. Thomas Cemetery. There are no calling hours and the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home is handling all arrangements. For online condolences please visit curranjones.com. to the Fortini family --- I was saddened to read about George's recent passing.
He was wonderfully generous with his time and his help to new attys starting in probate court. I will always be grateful for his assistance--which usually came with some pointed humor as a bonus.
