Not sure what to say?

This most sad news came to me only recently. I knew Peabo Gardner when I was an intern in the public relations office at the MFA. I still remember his great kindness. One day I was alone in the office when a curator having a bad day visited. Peabo overheard the unpleasantness and came right in. He talked to me about the professional persona, integrity, and grace. Even though I was intern, he took the time to make me feel better. We were both laughing in the end. In the intervening...

Dear Gardner Family,

I met Peabo in 1978 when I was Ted Stebbins's intern in American Paintings at the MFA. Over the years we ran into each other at various Harvard functions (usually at the Fogg), most recently about 5 years ago as my 25th Reunion approached. We shared an interest in Russian paintings. Dear Susan and Family,

The news just reached Atlanta, GA and I could not have been more shocked. I have been away from Harvard for twelve years but still remember Peabo's warmth and sincerity. He was fair and just and a gentleman in every way and will be missed. My heartfelt condolences to you all.

We were truly saddened to learn of Peabo's death. He was a great personal friend, co-worker, and a wonderful, down-to-earth human being. Our sincere condolences go out to Susan, Gus, Hilary, and the extended Gardner Family. It was, indeed, a pleasure to have known Peabo, and to have worked with him at the MFA. May the love of family and friends comfort you at this very sad time, and may you always remember his handsome good looks, radiant smile and genuine caring nature. He will be...

I did not know George Peabody Gardner, but I wish I had. As I read his obituary I could see that he was a kind, decent person. It just radiated from him. This is a terrible loss for the family and the world is a sadder place without George Gardner Peabody in it.
My condolences.
