WINSTED - George F. Goetz, Jr., 83, of Winsted died Sunday, May 9 at his home in Winsted. He was the husband of Drusilla Stewart Goetz, who predeceased him in 1983. Born Feb. 10, 1927 in Hartford, the son of the late George F. Goetz Sr. and Helen (Cooper) Goetz, Mr. Goetz spent his childhood and early adulthood in West Hartland, CT and graduated from The Gilbert School in 1944. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946. He was a master auto-body mechanic and began his apprenticeship at Ideal Ford in Winsted in 1951. He later worked at Barrett Ford, Frontier Ford and Lombard Ford, where he retired in 1993. Mr. Goetz served on the Hartland Board of Education, West Hartland Volunteer Fire Department, the Board of Selectman and the Democratic Town Committee when he was a Hartland resident. He was member of the International Order of Red Men and the Amos Beecher Masonic Lodge. He is survived by two children and their spouses, Don Goetz and his wife, Faith, of Winsted; and June Peterson and her husband, Chris, of Norfolk. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Michael Goetz, stationed with the US Army in Afghanistan and his wife, Kelly; Drusilla Keenan of Colorado Springs, CO and her husband, Chip; Adam Goetz of Winsted; Molly Peterson and Emma Peterson, both of Norfolk. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Moose. Calling hours will be Sunday, May 16, 3-5 p.m. at Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 922 Main Street, Winsted. A graveside service will be held at the West Hartland Cemetery at a later date.
