Weatherhead Young Funeral Home Obituary

Weatherhead Young Funeral Home - 885 Mantoloking Rd. Brick, NJ 08723

George Joseph Gordon, age 77 of Brick, NJ passed away on Thursday, August 10th at his home.

He was born in Newark, NJ and lived in Hillside, NJ before moving to Brick 48 years ago. He was a graduate of Monmouth University, where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army National Guard. He was employed for many years at the Ocean County Courthouse in Toms River, NJ; retiring in 2011.

George is remembered fondly for his great sense of humor, his loud laugh, and always doing what he could to make others laugh. Many viewed him as a father figure who showed love and compassion, no matter the circumstances.

He was passionate about gardening and loved seeing the fruits of his labor blossom.

He loved reading adventure novels and could be found getting lost in one of his Clive Cussler books.

George loved spending time in the kitchen and browsing through cooking magazines for new recipes. He was especially fond of chocolate, ice cream, and all things sweet. He looked forward to annual family trips to Hershey Park, where he waited eagerly for his almond chocolate bar.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and creating fun memories with them. He also enjoyed reminiscing about memories from the past with those that he loved. He was eager about the idea of exploring new places, and was always thinking about his next adventure. He cared deeply about everyone and everything in his life.

Most importantly, he loved spending time with his grandsons, whether it was reading books with them, cooking cheese omelets for them, or doing whatever he could to hear their laughter. They were the light of his life, and he was the light of theirs.

George was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, a supportive uncle, and a caring friend. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

He was predeceased by his parents, Ida and Al. He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Sharon (Handler) Gordon; his loving daughter, Alysson Schembari and her husband, Mike of Brick; his brother, Hank Gordon of Long Branch; his sister Deanne Gordon of Long Branch; his sister-in-law Barbara Horahan of Toms River, his beloved grandchildren, Michael and Daniel; and many devoted nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 15th from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Weatherhead Young Funeral Home – 885 Mantoloking Rd. Brick, NJ 08723. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers, can be made in his honor to the Jersey Shore Animal Center - 185 Brick Blvd, Brick Township, NJ 08723.
