George D. GreenJune 24, 1943 - 2020 It's a bold claim, but it's possible no one ever forgot meeting my dad. It wasn't because of his good looks, or the charisma - though he had lots of both. It was his capacity to make a meaningful connection. It gave every encounter, no matter how fleeting, a...

Not sure what to say?

I met George Green at the Monroe Institute during a program called Lifelines. We connected and seemed to have not only shared the world of arts but possibly a life in the American south when he was a colonel of sorts or so we imagined. He was dynamic, creative and fun. We met up at his studio a few times in SoHo where I also met his wife Charlene. Always in our hearts. Louisa Calio, Poet, performer, photo artist

As a child he was larger than life with a deep booming voice. I wanted to be afraid of him but he was such a jokester he just drew you in! Summer breaks on the oregon coast were some of my best memories ever.
Kathy Forester (Barnes), niece

My heart aches to hear of George's passing. To me he will always be my iconic example of a person with a deep reservoir of self-acceptance, selfless love, and courage.
He and I began and ended our primary education in the same classes - 1st through 3rd, then 9th through graduation.
I have an enduring memory of George, that comes to mind, often. A third-grade classmate became ill one day in class; and, George spoke up, offering to walk him home. I can still see them walking...

George Green was my most inspirational teacher at SUNY Potsdam. I also credit him with my introduction to NYC and my love of living and making art there for almost 30 years. (Hello Amber, it's been a very long time). George reminds me of my own father ,now passed, bigger than life and always with me!

I had the opportunity to meet George at the Monroe Institute's Lifelines program. We became instant friends and met at his studio in New York a few times as well as some of his art openings. He was an extraordinary artist and as his daughter said a wonderful human being. I am so sad to learn of his passing.

Just learned of George's passing, and it breaks my heart.
A couple of years ago I met George at a Corvallis High School (Class of 1961) reunion, the first time I had seen him since graduation. I knew of his work and offered to help him in his endeavors to introduce and expose people, especially young people, to the creation and appreciation of art. A retired journalist, I was to string together a kind of mini-biography of George - who he was, where came from, what he did, why he did...

Such an amazing perso- his humanity, his art, his humor, oh yes what a sense of humor, and his way of interacting with you that made you feel heard.

I remember George from Corvallis High School. I was a year ahead of him. I was thrilled to reconnect with him in the Vision Exhibit at the Schnitzer Museum at the U. of O. last year. His spirit, his talent, his love of life will be so missed. He was an artist's artist.

George by far was the most amazing person I have ever met.
