George A. Hall

1947 - 2020

Springfield- George A. Hall, 72, passed away unexpectedly on May 3, 2020, at Baystate Medical Center.  Born in Chicopee on December 6, 1947, he was the son of the late Gilbert H. and Leona A. (Bienvenue) Hall.  He was educated in local schools and was a graduate of Chicopee High School.  George attended American International College while working his way through college.  At the age of 19, he met his future wife, Kathy, while both were working at Mass Mutual.  In 1968, George put college on hold, when he was drafted into the United States Army to serve in Vietnam.  In 1970 he was honorably discharged from his military service.  He returned to AIC and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, becoming the first college graduate in his family.  George went on to work as a Loan Officer for banks in the Springfield and Hartford areas over the course of his career.  George did not suffer fools lightly, and he never let the truth get in the way of a good story.  He enjoyed many creative hobbies, including singing and writing poetry.  Most notably, George was an accomplished photographer.  He served as the family's official photographer for every event, and often selflessly volunteered to photograph wedding for family and friends.  George was the manager and a member of the group Timeless Tunes, providing musical entertainment to nursing home residents.  He always looked forward to visiting The Glen in Pittsburgh, NH, where he spent countless hours in nature waiting for the perfect shot. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his grandchildren.  In addition to his parents, George is predeceased by his brothers, Richard G. and David A. Hall, and a sister, Christine Lennon.  He is survived by his wife of more than 50 years, Kathy (Staples) Hall, and their sons, Christopher K. Hall and his wife, Ivonne, of West Springfield, Jeffrey B. Hall and his wife, Lindsay, of Westfield, and Gregory A. Hall and his wife, Megan, of Tolland, CT.  He is also survived by a sister, Janet Miller, of Windsor, CT, a brother Gary Hall and his husband, David Harris, of Springfield, sisters-in-law Jean Hall and Gail Foss, both of Springfield, a brother-in-law Thomas Staples and his wife, Jeanine, of Monson, his seven grandchildren, Hannah, Benjamin, Emily, Madison, Olivia, Alison, and Dylan, as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews.  Memorial contributions in George's memory may be made to Lorraine's Soup Kitchen, 170 Pendexter Ave, Chicopee, MA  01013.  All services will be private at the convenience of the family.  Corridan Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. www.CorridanFuneral.com
