Douglass Edgerley & Bessom Funeral Home Obituary

George A.G. Howse, a resident of Reading for 53 years, died December 2, 2019 at his home.  He was 88 years of age.

George was born in Somerville, Massachusetts on August 17, 1931the son of George and Ethel (Stanford) Howse.  George was raised in Somerville and graduated from Somerville High School in 1950.  He and Beatrice (Bea) married in Somerville in 1953 more than 66 years ago.  They moved to Reading in 1967 where they raised their eight children.  George retired from Raytheon in 1991 after 37 years of service.  He enjoyed woodworking, especially carving.  That was his forte.  His children, family and friends have many heirlooms to be proud of.  During retirement he and Bea enjoyed seasonal camping mostly in Western, MA and Vermont. A mainstay of his was going out for breakfast every day, traveling anywhere from Gloucester to Portsmouth, NH with Bea driving when his Alzheimer’s advanced.  George was a quiet man but his sense of humor and wit remained with him in spite of his disease.  He was always good for a chuckle.  George also proudly served his country during the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army.

He was the beloved husband of Beatrice “Bea” (Moultrie) Howse.  Devoted father of Pamela J. Kelly and her husband David of Reading, Kenneth W. Howse and his wife Cynthia of Wakefield, Cheryl J. Nichols and her friend James Lynch of Wilmington, Randall S. Howse and his wife Anne of Haverhill, Russell W. Howse and his wife Linda of Reading, Bradford E. Howse of Windham, NH, Rodney S. Howse and his wife Renee of Mt. Jewett, PA, and the late Scott E. Howse. Cherished brother of Barbara Robertson and her husband George of Stoneham, the late Stewart Howse, Charles Howse, Ann Beland, Jessie Svenson, Ilena Merowski, and Ethel Lewis.  He is also survived by 20 loving Grandchildren and 25 loving great grandchildren.

A funeral service celebrating George’s life will be held on Saturday, December 7, at the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home 25 Sanborn St. (corner of Woburn St.), Reading, at 10am followed by the burial at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody.  Funeral home visiting hours will be Friday evening from 4-8pm.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in George’s memory to the Old South United Methodist Church 6 Salem St. Reading, MA 01867.

Not sure what to say?

Ive known George and Bea pretty much my whole life and they both are just wonderful people. Ill always remember George refereeing our football games out on Deering St. in front of their house-just some great memories.
George, you will be missed

Sending lots of love & prayers to all of the Howse family in this time of sorrow.

So sorry for your loss to the entire family

I will always remember George as a very kind man. God bless.

Uncle George, I have many fond memories of our get togethers at Christmas and Thanksgiving when I was young. I have reconnected with several of my cousins in recent months and hope to visit with them and Auntie Bea in the future. My heart felt sympathy goes out to Auntie Bea and my cousins. You all are in my thoughts. Love, Jack

Uncle Georgie,
May you sleep peacefully until you rise again upon the hearing of his voice and the great trump of God.
Always Love,
John & Evelyn Merowski

We are so sorry for your loss Aunt Bea! Wish we took the time and came up before this happen! He is in good hands with the family watching over him!

Dearest Uncle Georgie. You will truly be missed. You gave it your best shot...Alzheimers is a nasty disease. You are in a better place now with all your siblings, Scotty, Nana and Papa. You had the best caregiver anyone could ever ask for. Auntie Beatrice is an angel on earth. Hey, I was thinking of placing a bottle of castor oil in your pants pocket..what do you think?

This book of memories is to serve as a record of the services you entrusted to us. We hope it will help to preserve treasured memories and that we, in some small measure, have helped to ease your burden and bring you comfort.
