Woodfin Funeral Chapel - Murfreesboro Obituary

George Beesley Huddleston, Jr., passed away peacefully on November 21, 2024, after an eight-year battle with cancer. Known for his faith, service, and boundless love for his family, George leaves behind a legacy of kindness, leadership, and adventure.

Born on December 10, 1958, to Mary Keeble “Kib” Harrison Huddleston and the late George Beesley Huddleston, Sr., George grew up with a deep appreciation for family and community. A graduate of The Webb School (1976) and Vanderbilt University (1980), he later dedicated over 35 years to the family business, Huddleston Oil Company. Following his retirement, George turned his energy toward volunteer work, touching countless lives through his service.

George’s love for his family was at the heart of everything he did, as he cherished moments spent with his wife Tracey and his children, George III, Anna, and Zach. Some of his happiest times were shared with his son George III, bonding over their mutual love for the outdoors, motorsports, and Vanderbilt athletics. He also took great joy in mentoring Zach, passing on valuable life lessons while sharing special moments shooting, boating, and attending sporting events. George relished every moment with his family, always finding joy in celebrations, gatherings, and the laughter of his grandchildren.

An avid pilot, George’s passion for flying extended beyond the skies. He delighted in using his skills to serve others, volunteering for medical flights and sharing his love for aviation with his community. His long-standing roles on the Murfreesboro Airport Commission and Tennessee Aeronautics Commission reflected his dedication to making aviation more accessible and impactful.

George was deeply involved in his community, serving on the boards of Alive Hospice and The Webb School. He was also an officer of the Sportsman’s Club for many years, where he shared his enthusiasm for outdoor activities and fellowship. A proud Rotarian and Paul Harris Fellow, George embodied the spirit of “Service Above Self,” contributing to countless projects and mentoring future leaders.

George was also one of the founding members of Fellowship United Methodist Church, where he shared his faith and cultivated enduring relationships with his church family. As a member of First United Methodist Church, one of his favorite ministries was teaching the Bible Zone class.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Tracey Huddleston; his son George III of Winter Park, FL (wife Liana and sons Logan and Paxton); his daughter Anna Farmer of Raleigh, NC (husband Peter and children Thompson, James, and Lucy); his son Zach Ring of Cookeville, TN (wife Allison); his mother Kib Huddleston of Murfreesboro, TN; his brother Henry Huddleston of Arrington, TN (wife Chris and sons Alex, Clay, and Reid); and his sisters Mary Earthman of Nashville, TN (husband John and daughter Anne) and Elizabeth Huddleston of Asheville, NC (wife Wendy).

Honorary pallbearers will include Tanner Evans, Gilbert Gordon, Robert Hester, Glen Hutchinson, Zach Leister, Kevin Swartz, Drew Shelley, Cannon Tilford, Tom Tritschler, and Michael Warren.

Services will be held on Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Murfreesboro. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., with the service starting at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alive Hospice or The Webb School, organizations close to George’s heart and an online guestbook is available for the Huddleston Family at www.woodfinchapel.com.

Not sure what to say?

We honor George Beasley Huddleston, Jr. His departure seems way too early.
He will be missed by his mother, wife, children, grandchildren, family, cousins, friends, classmates and fraternity brothers. He was a blessing in the lives of so many. His kindness, candor, humor and courage will be remembered and serve as an example for us all.

I am so sad to learn of George's illness and death, and the news has stayed with me all week. My parents, Linnell and Christine Gentry were good friends with the Huddleston family during First Methodist days. I deeply appreciated George's kindness to me on social occasions. My father always said he was such an outstanding example of core Rotarian values. My thoughts are with the entire Huddleston family during this time.

I turned off my Facebook for a week and opened it up today to see this sad news. I am so sorry to hear of his passing: his entire family are in my thoughts today. George and I were fraternity brothers and roommates at Vanderbilt, and our parents were friends at Vandy too.. Living together, we were the Odd Couple, and I was definitely Oscar. He used to call me “Hippie” and the nickname was affectionately given—contained absolutely no judgement. I remember his flying us down to Ole Miss one...

When I first met George I was scared of flying. He was so knowledgeable and professional, I eventually went flying with him. He sparked an interest in flying and played a part in overcoming this fear. George had a genuine big smile and a contagious laugh. A huge kind heart, so thoughtful of others, and always willing to help. A great friend and mentor, someone I could talk to about anything. You will be greatly missed by so many! I know you are in a better place and we will one day see each...

George was a true trail blazer and highly respected in the aviation community by all. Personally, he was an inspiration to me as he always looked for the best solution and offered invaluable advice over all these years.
We will all miss you very much George. God Bless and Blue Skies forever.

My heart and prayers are with the Huddleston family.I will always remember the last words Mr.George told me.he said thank you camica (caregiver)for everything you do for my mother.he will be truly missed.Godbless and comfort his family hearts through this time

Sorry to hear of George's passing. He was a great example and advocate of everything aviation.

I am saddened to learn of the loss of George. We were classmates at Webb School. While years might pass between seeing each other, his friendship was unchanging - always the optimist, always joyful and always loyal. It goes without saying that George loved flying and I was fortunate to have been invited on some of his aerial adventures in his dad's Rockwell 190 as well as joining his family for lake excursions. When the brevity of a holiday left me "orphaned" in Bell Buckle, George would...

One of the Best!! I thought the world of Jr, I worked for the Huddleston's for several years and they are one of the most genuine and caring families I will ever know. I have run into George Jr several time in Kroger and he has always came up to me (with that smile) if he saw me first and always asked about the family and how everyone was. Jr, you will be missed dearly and my thoughts and prayers are with Tracey, George,III, Anna, Mrs. Huddleston, Henry, Elizabeth, Mary, and all of the...
