He always had a smile and a hello even for lab assistant college students like me, back in the 80s. And what a full life he led! Condolences to his family.

I had the pleasure to meet George and Marilyn after becoming their neighbor in Mchenry. They would come and enjoy their home in mchenry I’ll every spring, summer, and fall. I enjoyed talking with them both. The scientific knowledge George had about his research was fascinating. He did so much to better this world with his dedication to science. He no doubt changed the world for the better, leaving his mark in history. Thank you George and God bless. Walter Drewko Mchenry Il.

George was already a well-known and highly respected scientist when I came to work at the USDA in the 1980s. He was always willing to share his time and ideas with me, and was very encouraging and supportive. He inspired many of us to do our best and strive for success. His influence will live on in the many younger scientists he mentored and influenced over the years.

I used to work with George years ago at the Ag Lab as a Secretary to the research unit we were both under. George was a great scientist and a very nice person. He fondly spoke of his wife Marilyn who would drop him off work and visit him for lunch every day. He was a dedicated hard worker and made many great advances in his scientific work. I’m saddened to hear of his passing but I’m sure he happily joined the love of his life (Marilyn) again. He will be truly missed. My condolences to his...
