George Joseph Obituary

George William Joseph IRMO George William Joseph, 54, of Irmo, SC, died Monday morning, June 12, 2017, from complications due to a short battle with cancer. George was born September 11, 1962, in Chicago, IL, and raised in Schiller Park, IL. He graduated from East Leyden High School, Franklin Park, IL, in 1980. He joined the U.S. Armed Forces at age 17 upon graduation where he was stationed at Fort Benning, GA, for basic training. From there he served three years in Hawaii at Schofield Barracks and was an anti-tank gunner. He then went to Fort Ord and Fort Hunter Liggett in CA where he was involved in the experimentation of different warfare tactics and vehicles. In 1984 he went into the Reserves and served at Fort Jackson as a weapons training instructor. He re-enlisted full time in 1986 and served at Fort Polk in Louisiana, where he was an anti-tank vehicle crewman, and then a section leader in charge of troops and vehicles in a combat unit. He was honorably discharged in 1992. He said numerous times that joining the military was one of the best decisions he ever made. After his military days he had the opportunity to learn the Telecommunications Industry working with his father at TelCom, Inc. Most recently he was employed by Network Infrastructure Cabling Inc. where he installed, repaired, relocated communications cabling at Lexington Medical Center for almost four years, the same hospital where he received his treatments. It was a blessing that he was cared for at this hospital where he knew so many of the people caring for him. George found solace when fishing at Lake Murray and working in his yard. He was also quite the master griller, and his cooking will be missed. George had such a bright spirit it was infectious to those around him, always to crack a joke when needed, even in his final days. His positive attitude spilled over to others; one couldn't help but be upbeat around George Joseph. He had an inner joy that overflowed! He was a member of Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church where he served on the Evangelism and Offering Committees. He also served as an usher and a greeter. He had a strong faith in the Lord, which never failed him. He is survived by his wife, Camille Lassiter Joseph; stepdaughter, Taylor Ann Fiber; father, Francis August Joseph of Leesville, SC; brother, Michael August Joseph (Carrie) of Summerville, SC; sister, Mary Katherine Bozard (Jim) of Lexington, SC; brother, Donald Ray Ellinger of Chicago, IL, and many nephews, nieces and cousins. He was predeceased by his mother, Vivian Joyce Green Joseph, and sister, Heidi Joyce Ellinger. Services will be held Thursday, June 15, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church, Chapin, SC. Pastor Ralph Hill will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 14, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home in Chapin, SC. Contributions in memory of George William Joseph may be made to Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church, PO Box 8, Chapin, SC 29036 or American Cancer Society at 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210. www.caughmanharmanfuneralhome.net

Camille and Taylor Ann:

Well I know how sad this is for you and for all of us to lose a soul here on earth that was filled with such joy and understanding love for you both and for ALL his friends.

I also know that he would not want us to shed a tear, but to celebrate his life and for us all not to worry about him, as we all now have another Angel in heaven praying for us as we can continue to pray for him.

My best and Love always,

Kevin Bischoff

Camille and Taylor Ann-

Our hearts were broken this morning when we learned of George's passing. He was always so kind to us and the boys at church, especially when ushering the same Sundays as Tim. We pray for the day when no one else will suffer from the pain and anguish brought on by the fight against cancer, and when the disease will no longer take the ones we hold dear. May Christ's amazing grace bring peace to your hearts and minds in the days ahead.

Camille and family, I am so sorry that I wasn't able to come to visitation, nor will I get to George's funeral service tomorrow. I am thinking of you and praying for the peace that comes when suffering is over. May the memories sustain you and the love of God, family, and friends surround you. My love to you all.

Words cannot begin to describe George Joseph, but if I had to choose two they would be caring and loyal. When he married my mother, he knew he was getting me with all of my flaws as well. We were very close when I was younger. He would take me to school everyday and when he had just raked the lawn, we would jump in the leaves together. He took me fishing and came to all the school awards ceremonies. As I grew into my teenage years, I would give him attitude and not listen to what he told me. We would argue but he still loved me the same. As I became more mature, I realized how it made him feel when I took things out on him and we stopped bickering so much. We grew closer again and on February 25th, when he told me he was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer, my heart broke. I told him he had to fight because I couldn't lose him. So he fought and fought. One evening in the hospital, I held his hand and tears began to pour down my cheeks. He said to me, "As long as I'm breathing, I'm fighting." He also told me to let him do the crying. He kept his promise and fought until the very last breath and I kept my promise to be right by his side through out his sickness. I went to his bedside with my mother and I held his hand until his fight was over. Even though he is not physically with me on this Earth, he will live in my heart forever.

I love you my Boo. You were an amazing individual who always had compassion for others. You truly were a servant helping those in need. I can't believe I won't see that smiling face come in through the back door anymore. I miss you terribly. Words can't describe my pain. Thank you for being so good to me and Tayler Ann. You were the best husband and stepfather. We were fortunate to have you in our lives. I will always love you forever and look forward to the day I see you again. You fought the good fight - now rest where you have no more pain, no more tears, no more suffering. Love your Bay.

George was a true friend and neighbor. He was always there to lend a hand, and offered help in any way he could give it. A very kind-hearted person, he will not be soon forgotten. Our prayers are with your family.

To my best friend growing up. George, you helped me through many difficult times. Alcoholism in High School, being pushed around.... you were there for me. I only wished there was something I could do for you. You will be in my thoughts and in my prayers everyday. I will miss you dearly.

We send our deepest condolences. George was the first person we met when we would come over to look at our house being built. He was caring, benevolent, and always had a friendly smile on his face. He spoke warmly to us all the time and would always give a gentle wave as he drove by. We will miss him tremendously, and his love and caring will live in our hearts forever.
