George Patrick Killian, 85, died at 12:40 a.m. April 18, 2011, at Lima Convalescent Home. He was born March 8, 1926, in Lima to George F. and Margaret A. Murphy Killian, who preceded him in death. On Aug. 28, 1948, he married Norlene F. Guthrie, who died Oct. 31, 1993. Mr. Killian retired in 1987 from West Ohio Gas, after 35 years. He was a 1944 graduate of St. Gerard High School. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370, Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks Lodge 54 and Knights of Columbus Council 2661. He had been a member of the YMCA. In 2001, he was the grand marshal of the Lima Irish Parade. He enjoyed bowling, golf, and softball. Most of all, he enjoyed his family and friends having fun, especially at garage parties where they would meet and regular Sunday afternoons around the kitchen table. He was an avid fan of the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Detroit Tigers. Survivors include five children, Beverly (Tim) Carder, Pat (Jody Gorman) Killian and Dan (Courtney) Killian, all of Lima, Michael (Dianne) Killian, of Worthington, and Barb (Rob) Singer, of Columbus; a sister, Margaret Donovan, of Lima; six grandchildren, Maggie, Jordan, Brett, Erik, Kacy and Kolby; two stepgranddaughters, Tara and Tobi; and four stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Mary Catherine McClain; and four brothers-in-law, Robert "Frosty" Donovan, and James, Jack and Tommy Guthrie. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Rose Catholic Church. Father David Ross will officiate. Burial will be in Gethsemani Cemetery, with military rites by the Army and VFW Post 1275. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes, Shawnee Chapel, where a parish wake service will be held at 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Lima Central Catholic High School, the Lima Convalescent Home or St. Rita's Hospice.
