Not sure what to say?

George W. Knapper's long and distinguished career - historian, educator, author, broadcaster - was equaled by his dedicated service to many organizations, including my own, the Ohioana Library, which twice honored him and his work. Most of all, George was a devoted family man, and his dear wife Phyllis remains a great friend of Ohioana. We remember George with affection this week that marks five years since his passing.

When i was a student at the university of akron 1970 to 1974 ,He was my favorite prefessor,I had him for western civilization,He was always interesting, and funny,I trully looked forward to his class. If there are schools in heaven, iam sure he will be teaching in one of them, for sure.russ boyd class of 1974.

The Ohioana Library joins in celebrating the wonderful life of George W. Knepper. George was a long-time friend and supporter of Ohioana, a Trustee Emeritus of the Ohioana Board, and a two-time Ohioana Award winner. He received the 1990 Ohioana Career Medal for his lifetime achievements as a "writer, teacher, historian," and two years later the Ohioana Book Award for "Quilts in Community: Ohio's Traditions." It's an old cliche, but in George's case it fits: "They broke the mold when they...

Thank you to Dr. Knepper for his life lessons and humor in the classroom, not to mention his wealth of knowledge he graciously shared with his students! Condolences to his family. He was one-of-a-kind!

I love history because of Dr. Knepper. I took several history classes from him and I was a teaching assistant for his American History survey classes at the University of Akron in the early 80s. He made Ohio history interesting and fun with his stories about the travels around Ohio that he took with his family. I also taught history for a while and I shared my love for history with my students because of him.

On behalf of the Keller family, please accept our most sincere condolences for your loss.
Our father, Roger Keller, dearly loved & respected George throughout the time they shared as Professors at The University of Akron.
Dad always said: "Ohio has been good to our family".
The gifts George gave as history professor, author, lecturer are still giving to our community.

Please accept my fullest condolences. Dr. Knepper was the first collegiate professor I had the honor to feel a personal relationship with. He was so open and engaging. He brought history to life with his knowledge and enthusiasm. He let me interview him for a WWII paper I had to do. I became a history teacher and just finished 39 years. Dr. Knepper gave me an inspiration and role model to follow. I was truly blessed to have been taught and guided by this great man! May God bless and comfort...

I adored this man. Because of him, I turned my high school distaste for history into a lifelong thirst for it. I took every class he taught in college even though I was required to take only one. And, I was lucky enough to know him through his circle of friends after having him as a teacher and he was just as delightful in person. Such an amazing man and a true gift to our community.

My deepest sympathy to you and your family, Mrs Knepper...

I am so sorry for your loss. May God's promise comfort and sustain your family during this difficult time. John 6:40.
