GEORGE KOPP Obituary

GEORGE STEWART KOPP
Of Vienna, VA died Saturday, February 1, 2020, with his loving wife Gini and their son Joshua at his side. Born June 22, 1944 in Chicago, IL, George moved with his family to Ocean Grove, NJ in 1957, where he cultivated lifelong friendships and a love for the Jersey Shore. George went on to graduate from Arkansas State University and with honors from the University of Arkansas School of Law. George was an accomplished public servant, with long tenures at the US Department of Justice, the Federal Trade Commission and the US Congress. Among his many achievements, George directed the first Congressional hearing on global warming. He served on several political campaigns including the 1992 Clinton Presidential Campaign, after which he was an advisor to the president's transition team. Following government service, he represented several multinational companies in the transportation and public works sectors and volunteered as Counsel for the Korean War Memorial Foundation. With quick wit and humor, George loved to entertain. He was a master of storytelling, BBQ and 3-olive martinis. His friends and colleagues considered him a joy to debate with and a pleasure to work alongside. A devoted husband and father, George is survived by his wife Gini and son Joshua. He was preceded in death by his father George W. Kopp, his mother Edna C. Kopp (Stewart), and his brother R. Jeffery Kopp. A visitation will be held on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at the Fairfax Presbyterian Church in Fairfax, VA from 2 to 5 p.m. A memorial service will take place at a later date. My thoughts and prayers are with George´s family and friends.
My family, the Lindners and the Kopps were next door neighbors and best friends for several years when they lived in La Grange, Illinois. Sadly, George Sr. Suddenly died of a heart attack and then they - Edna, George and Jeff - moved back to Ocean Grove, N. J. I was delighted when a few years ago George called me - connected in FB - and we renewed our friendship. He was a great guy and dear friend. Peace be with you!

He was guy.
I first met George when he came into The Venetian Room at Hotel Lombardy. He was always nice and funny. I was in so much pain after one of my fights. Still serving drinks he asked me if I was ok. Just those kinds words were enough to start a friendship with him. Thanks for all of your kindness George

I first met George in Memphis Tenn. on the way too Arkansas College. I transferred with George and others to A state in Jonesboro Ark. I last saw him on the day of Winston churchill's funeral, As I was headed home. He was renting a home with my roommate Bob Gapin in Jonesboro Ark. We've been trying to get together for a ruion for Yrs. George was an old friend who I've not seen for years, but have talked to on the phone.

George was my very first customer in the remodeling business. In the late seventys and early eightys I worked for George in Old Town Alexandria and later in Southern Maryland. George was more than a customer ,we were friends. He loved to work alongside me doing demolition and carpentry. I lost touch with George and thats too bad because after reading about him ,he sounds like he was still the fun guy I remembered him to be. He was cool too, driving that Porsche Targa to work. I actually still have a 1940's wooden chifforobe that was his Mother's from her hotel in the Jersey shore that George gave me back then.My thoughts and prayers go out to Gini and Joshua.

It is with much sadness we learn of George's passing. We were friends at Arkansas College and Arkansas State University and remained so over the years. We will miss him.
Rest in peace our friend.

I met this lovely kind man when I was able to become part of the family when I was able to teach their son Josh for about a year and a half. Since meeting how I discovered what a great man he was and a kind father and a loving husband to his wife. I have fond memories of sitting near the fireplace and George bringing me glass after glass of great wine and sharing so many awesome conversations about his experience working for the government. The world and family and friends have suffered a terrible loss. Rest In Peace. Janice victorov
