George R. Koyl, 87, of Acampo, CA passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, April 19, 2009. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. George was born October 31, 1921 in East Palestine, Ohio. He was a Stockton resident for 40 years before moving to Acampo in 1996. George was an honored war veteran of World War II who proudly enlisted in the United States Navy the day after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He was stationed on the U.S.S. Honolulu and served in the South Pacific as a Fire Controlman Second Class Petty Officer. George was a longtime member of the Cathedral of the Annunciation in Stockton, CA. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, taught CCD, and served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years.
He was a devoted father to Judy Kalush-Robles and husband Chris of Manhattan Beach, CA. Linda Staggs and husband Mike of Stockton, David Koyl of Valley Springs. Sue Wright and husband Joe of Acampo. He was the loving grandfather of Paul Kalush and wife Lisa, Ron Staggs and wife Sherry, Lisa Banuelos and husband Rudy, Michael Staggs, Thomas Staggs and wife Tina, Andrea Wright, Erica Wright, and Jennifer Wright. He was a loving great-grandfather to Nicole Staggs, Alexis Banuelos, Xavier Staggs, Cecelia Staggs, and Quinn Staggs. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Ida Koyl, his granddaughter Sarah Wright, his brother Glen Koyl, and his sister Margaret Lee.
Visitation will be held at DeYoung Memorial Chapel, 601 N. California St., Stockton, CA on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. A recitation of the Rosary will follow at 6:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Stockton Rural Cemetery, 2350 Cemetery Ln., Stockton, CA on Thursday, April 23, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to St. Mary's Dining Room, 545 W.
