George W. Lyle, 94

George W. Lyle, 94, of the North Summit, died Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Christ the King Manor in DuBois.

He was born November 7, 1930, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Amanda (Braniff) and Harvey Lyle.  He was the youngest of thirteen children and the last remaining member of his immediate family.

On June 16, 1956, he married Naomi M. (North) Lyle, who preceded him in death on November 13, 2018.  They would have celebrated sixty-nine years of marriage on June 16.

George was a graduate of the Punxsutawney High School.  He served his country as a United States Marine during the Korean War from 1951 to 1954.

He worked for T.W. Phillips Gas Company for many years and enjoyed meeting the public while he would be out and about working throughout the town.  He really enjoyed his fellow co-workers as well.

George was a member of the Zion Presbyterian Church.  He was a founding member of the McCalmont Township Volunteer Fire Company and was a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America.  George enjoyed gatherings with his fellow service members, socializing and being around people, gardening, hunting, golfing after his retirement, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by three children, son Doug Lyle and wife Dee of Punxsutawney, son Dave Lyle and wife Colette of DuBois, and daughter Dianna Kennedy and husband Steve of DuBois; eight grandchildren, Jason Bochert and wife Jen, Jeremy Bochert and fiancé Katrina Brown, Cory Hartman and wife Kristy, Dayna Mack and husband Seth, Derek Lyle and Jaycee Martinchek, Zack Kennedy and Mariah Smith, Jake Kennedy and Alyse Saylor, and Lauren Kennedy; six great-grandchildren, Miles Bochert, Grace Bochert, Caroline Hartman, Carson Hartman, Camilla Hartman, and Laneden Lyle; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and twelve siblings.

Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m., Saturday, June 14, 2025, and from 1 to 2 p.m., Sunday, June 15, 2025, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, June 15, 2025, at the funeral home with Pastor Al Hewitt officiating.

Interment will be in Zion Presbyterian Cemetery, Reynoldsville.

Not sure what to say?

Doug, Dee, and the entire extended Lyle family: My deepest sympathies for the passing of your dad. I’m sorry I was not present to express these sentiments and my support in person at the memorial services, as I learned your dad’s passing only late Monday evening. Regardless, I just read the obituary and he sounds like an incredible man who valued giving back to his community and helping others. You all must be very proud of him. And 12 siblings! What an incredible family. I can only image...
