My Great Uncle George, perhaps my best dinner companion before COVID seemed to steal such simple pleasures away. Devoted to family history, Verdi, opera in general, I wished that I had also known George's other half, John, as well as I felt that I knew George. I was personally blessed when he moved to Crosslands and into my stomping grounds. I will miss him, and his wit, daily - Maria (Amy Pemberton Martin, Amy Lewis Chapin)

Working as a hairstylist at Crosslands Beauty Salon I was privileged to meet Mr. Martin and enjoyed our conversations and especially his sense of humor! He was loved by MANY! Cathy Currie

George was such a lovely person, generous, charming and great company. He and my father were classmates at Groton. My mother and he treasured George´s friendship, and intellectual companionship. He lived a great and productive life. My condolences.

What a marvelous human being and great NYC friend, with John Sweeney, to me and my late husband Stuart. He was so excited to learn from some serendipitous research that it was his great-grandmother Cornelia Williams Martin who (anonymously) published "Among the Pima" - which was wildly popular & went through at least 7 printings in 1893, then was promptly forgotten, that he published a lovely facsimile edition in 2005. Western history scholars had attributed the work to the wrong author! ...
