George (Doug) Mayfield passed away in Reno, Nevada, from cardiovascular disease on June 2, 2020, at the age of 71. Doug was an easygoing man, with a generous heart and sweet nature. In the past, Doug could often be found socializing at the Los Gatos Lodge in Los Gatos, California, and more recently he spent most mornings at Walden's Coffeehouse in Reno along with his buddies, doing what he referred to as "solving the world's problems."

Doug was handsome, immaculate, a true gentleman, and a huge dog lover. He was well known for keeping lifelong friendships, spoiling his friends and family, and making new friends wherever he went.

Doug was born on May 15, 1949, to Maurice (Pete) and Leah (Fay) Mayfield in San Jose, California. He loved growing up on Fawn Drive, playing with dozens of neighbors. Doug graduated from Camden High School in 1967, a proud member and award winner of Future Farmers of America. Doug worked at BrandSafway for over 40 years. He started as an apprentice scaffolder and eventually became an estimator or, according to his coworkers, "the coolest estimator ever." Doug moved to Sparks, Nevada, in 2003 but frequently traveled around California to visit with former neighbors, coworkers, family, and friends.

Doug is survived by the family he affectionately referred to as "thegroup": his sister, Karen Butts (Tim); his niece and nephew whom he treated like his own kids, Kristina Ahmed (Serwar) and Michael Popplewell(Alexandra); and his grandnieces and grandnephew, Leah and Esme Ahmed and Madeline and Miles Popplewell.

Due to COVID-19, services for Doug will be delayed until it's safe togather. If you're interested in attending a celebration of Doug's life, please contact [email protected].

I remember Doug Mayfield fondly. We girls considered him "cute and shy". We didn't particularly know what he was thinking but we always wondered what he thought of us girls in the neighborhood of our Fawn Drive enclave. I remember his mother, father and sister, who was older and out of our league and understanding, and that he had a "pool" which seemed somehow important at the time in our young lives. I lost track of Doug after our elementary and high school days but seeing him at recent...

Growing up on Fawn Drive, Doug was the cute boy on the street that was too shy to talk to me. Later, he was NOT too shy! We became friends and enjoyed our Camden reunion meet ups. Photo is 2018

Ive known Doug for most of my life. He was a part of the family since I was a kid. He always was the first one to arrive at any location we met at. He would be standing out front waiting for everyone else smoking his cigarette. We could count on him to always be on time as long as he could get the group together. Hahaha. He was always a very cool guy and very nice. He would be the one hanging out at the pool all day at the nugget while all the other adults gambled. I knew Doug would be there...

Doug was like a father to me and grandfather to my kids. A huge presence in all of our lives. Everyone who knew Doug liked him. I miss him dearly, but I think our dog misses him the most. Such a good man, who worked hard and took care of everyone around him.

Going to miss you Uncle Doug!! Best Uncle Ever!!
