George Arthur McMichael
May 20, 1944 – April 24, 2025
George Arthur McMichael, 80, of Trinity, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2025.
Born May 20, 1944, George lived a full and vibrant life. He lived with his family in Lovelady, TX, until 1956, when they moved to Houston. George graduated from Jones High School in 1962, where he played basketball. After high school, George attended the University of Houston and eventually volunteered for service in the US Air Force Reserve. In 1975, George met the love of his life, Julia, and they were married in 1977. George dedicated over three decades of service to ExxonMobil, working from 1967 until his retirement in 2000. He worked in the CAPS division at ExxonMobil, designing and building analytical software for oil field production operations. When hurricanes entered the Gulf, most oil companies had to shut down operations, but ExxonMobil could still operate during this time because of the CAPS division.
After his retirement, George developed a passion for live music, and he and Julia would spend every Friday and Saturday night attending live music shows at the Camp Street Cafe in Crockett, TX. They spent 10 years listening to Don Edwards, The Gillette Brothers, and many more wonderful acts.
Known for his strong work ethic and quiet wit, George was a man who appreciated the simple joys in life. He loved playing golf, watching his children play sports, enjoying a good cigar, listening to music, and watching classic movies. Known as "Big George" to his family and friends, George loved watching Texas sports teams, especially the Houston Cougars. He was a great husband, father, and friend. George will be missed by all who knew him.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Lymen Lee Michael and Francis Thompson McMichael; his sister Rita McMichael Brown; and his brother Robert McMichael.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Julia Ann McMichael of Trinity, TX, and by his children: George Robert McMichael of Trinity, TX; Larry Lee Michael and wife Kari of Richmond, TX; Elizabeth Ricks of Houston, TX; Charles Scott Duke and wife Lucinda of Onalaska, TX; and Codye Sides (Duke) and husband Chris of Buda, TX.
George also leaves behind his siblings: Larry and wife Andrea McMichael of Conroe, TX; Wayne McMichael of Lovelady, TX; Mazie McMichael Arnold of Navasota, TX; Beth (McMichael) and husband Bill Gibson of Navasota, TX; and Carolyn McMichael Steinbach of Navasota, TX.
He will be lovingly remembered by his eight grandchildren— Melissa, Jessica, Victoria, Jacob, Eric, Matthew, Joshua, and Jeffrey—as well as his many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and numerous cousins.
George's legacy is one of quiet strength, steady love, and a deep appreciation for life's pleasures—be it University of Houston sports, a familiar tune, or time spent with family.
A Celebration of Life is planned for 11:00 AM on May 10, 2025, at Antioch Baptist Church, 4416 FM 230, Lovelady, TX 75851.
