My first day of college orientation, I met George. We hit it off as friends immediately. In the next four years, we always had at least one class together. He was a really great friend. Mr. Meeks was the teacher you never forgot. He was the role model you aspired to be like. Many years have gone by since he was my Civics teacher at Ben Franklin. I was so happy that my brother (who also had Mr. Meeks as a teacher at Ben Franklin) and I ran into him, his wife and what I imagine was their granddaughter at King Cone last July. He was always there to give an opinion, advice , a pat on the back or a word of support. He helped my daughter and I become the teachers we are today.

I am sure God has George singing in the choir, not humming in the corner! He was such a gentle soul and will be greatly missed.

I always wanted Mr. Meeks as a teacher. He team taught with Mr. Munson when I attended Ben Franklin. I just thought he was so funny. My brothers got to be his students and my Mom worked with him when she substitute taught. When I decided to become a history teacher, Mr. Meeks opened his classroom for me to observe. Our heartfelt condolences to you all. George was a great guy. I remember that he kept Bibi's mom, Betty, supplied with books and Netflix CDs. A real family man.

I share the heartbreak of all who were graced to have known George.
I met him when he debuted as an exceptionally talented student teacher during my senior year of high school. That same year, he entrusted me with making his wedding ring, a project I treasured primarily because of his trust in me. I had the great delight of sharing a reunion with George and Miriam a few years ago and was deeply heart-warmed to find how beautifully their life and family together had grown.
