George E. Milton, 85, life-long resident of Walker, passed away Friday, March 10, 2017, at Ochsner Medical Center. He was born on May 11, 1931. George was an electrician at Exxon/Mobil Corporation, retiring with 30 years of service at the young age of 55. He was one of the founding members of the Tri-State Rodeo Association, participating in calf roping and team roping with his son, Bill. They won the Tri-State Rodeo team roping championship event in 1979. He was a longtime member of the Livingston Parish Fair Association and served as manager of the annual rodeo for many years. George was instrumental in the creation of the Walker Museum, working with former mayor, Bobby Font, and he was proud of the fact that he was able to donate original town hall minutes left to him by his grandfather, Elliot Milton, who served as Mayor of Walker in the early 1900's. George was an avid reader and spent much of his time reading about historical events related to the Walker community. He was a member of the Livingston Parish Genealogical Society. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marlene Hill Milton; daughter, Kim Milton Sibley and husband, Mike; son, Bill Milton; 3 granddaughters, Brooke Sibley and fiancé, Chad Granger, Randee Farris Rousseau and husband, Jacob, Berkeley Sibley Rogillio and husband, Michael; 5 great-grandchildren, Brookelyn Harris, Cade and Connor Rousseau, Bentley Granger, and Ella Rogillio; 4 sisters, Jean M. Graham, Marie M. Stafford and husband, Wayne, Billie M. Estess and husband, Melvin, Madge M. Cotton; numerous nieces and nephews and many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar "Bill" and Bertic O. Milton; sisters, Carol M. Hooper and Linda M. Williams. He was a life-long member of Walker Baptist Church. Visitation will be held Monday, March 13, at Walker Baptist Church from 11 a.m. to service at 2 p.m. He will be laid to rest at Walker Baptist Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Cotton, Todd Stafford, Jacob Cotton, John Hutchinson, Brent Jackson, and Lynn King. Honorary pallbearers are Bobby Graham, Randy Hooper, Devon Williams, Doug Williams, Jared Stafford, Jason Hutchinson, Bob Hill, and Sid Garrison. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Walker Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 220, Walker, LA 70785 or First United Methodist Church, 316 Centerville St., Denham Springs, LA 70726.

I'm very proud to have been his friend and enjoyed all the time I spent with him especially when I took him and my dad to the Timed Event Championship in Oklahoma. I've lost another one of the guys I admired. My prayers are with the family.
