O'MEALLY, George Arthur, was born in Salina, Kansas on April 4, 1963, and departed this life December 13, 2010 in Richmond, Virginia. George was the youngest son of Vernon Edward and Emily Bryan O'Meally. He attended Frederick Military Academy in Portsmouth, Virginia and Thomas Jefferson High School in Richmond, Virginia. He was employed at the Richmond Times-Dispatch in Richmond, Virginia, for nearly 30 years, holding a number of positions, most recently in the Information Technology department. His interest in computers began as a hobby and turned into a career. George was gifted in music and loved singing and playing guitar, especially playing guitar, which he did daily. He loved politics and was a "news junkie," so much that he watched the Spanish language news channel (even though he did not speak Spanish). He also enjoyed sports and was a firearms enthusiast. He was married to Joyce Louise Thompson on June 30, 1994 and resided in Midlothian, Virginia. George was preceded in death by his mother, Emily Bryan O'Meally; brother, Vernon Edward O'Meally III; and brother-in-law, Gordon C. Thompson. He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce; children, Lauren and Zachary; father, Vernon; sisters, Anne O'Meally (Clement Britt), Rita Courtney (Oliver), Elizabeth Brown (Howard Russell), Lori Sledge (Charles); brother, Bryan O'Meally (Rochelle); brothers-in-law, Lonnie E. Thompson Jr. (Cindy), Byron R. Thompson; mother and father-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. L.E. Thompson Sr.; uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and a host of cousins and friends. We will miss him dearly. A celebration of George's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 18, at Bennett Funeral Home, 14301 Ashbrook Pkwy., Chesterfield, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the George O'Meally Memorial Fund at any Wachovia Bank location.

Not sure what to say?

George was a good friend of mine while we were at Frederick. He was such a great person with an even greater soul. I was trying to look him up on line to reconnect and am so profoundly saddened to see he has passed. I will gladly do my part to keep the memory of him alive. Stay cool George! Rita,
I'm so sorry I didn't make it to George's service, but I want you to know you & your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Having lost my brother in August, I am at a loss for words, and my heart goes out to you and your family. As it was promised to me, I promise you it will get better in time. God bless you all.

I enjoyed working with both George and Joyce for many years at the T-D. George was always so pleasant and helpful when responding to a Help Desk request. Joyce, please know that I am thinking of you, Lauren and Zack. Your kids are very fortunate to have such a great dad. Take care.
