I'm so sorry to hear that Mr. Peterkin died! My late father, Milton C. Butcher, Jr., always spoke respecfully and fondly of Mr. Peterkin. My father frequently leased barges to Dixie Carriers. On one occasion my father (if memory serves) sold a barge to Dixie and requested that Mr. Peterkin have the plaque marking the barge's construction removed and sent to him. Shortly thereafter the plaque arrived - it hangs on my office wall to this day! My belated condolences to Mrs. Peterkin, to Susan, and the rest of the Peterkin and Bean families. RIP Fine man.

My father, Richard B. Welch, worked for Dixie Carriers for many years. Mr. Peterkin was much respected by my father and when I was young and growing up, his name was often mentioned in dinner time conversations.
My sincerest condolences.

I thank George for giving me a job at Dixie Carriers which started my 34 year career in the barge industry. Additionlt, my brother Tommy, my son Greg and my nephew John followed my career direction and worked directly with Dixie and Kirby Marine. We all feel your great loss of this steady leader.
