Powell George Powell. On Saturday, April 16, 2016, in Washington, D.C., the world lost an engaging personality who, over an extraordinary lifetime, selflessly gave of himself to everyone he met. It is with profound sadness that his children announce this sudden passing after a brief illness....

Mr. George Powell was a great man with a big heart for everyone he came in touch with. Whether you knew him like my father and I did or were an stranger he was always nice and genuine. My father was friends with him at Xavier University and every time he came to visit us in Cincinnati he would always ask "How are you doing?" I'll always remember his mentoring underprivileged youth and love of sports. He is and forever will be a great man and friend. RIP Big George.

I am sorry I saw this so late, but Coach Powell meant a lot to me. He reached out and gave me support after my mother remarried and I moved to Columbus as a middle schooler. He gave me sports to love and he gave me a friendship that I fondly remember to this day. Rest with the Angels, Coach Powell. You have earned it. -Jon Cochran

He was used by God to touch the lives of many people both young and old. He always had a story to tell, an experience to share or advice to give. His presence lit up a room and his legacy will live on through the lives he influenced as a father, a teacher, a coach, and as a friend. It was hard not to love him because his...

Angela and George--at a time like this, sometimes words are difficult to express. The obituary was a loving tribute to your father. Cherish the memories of the times you spent together. God bless you and grant you peace.
