REX, George - Of Flint, age 90, died Friday, July 4, 2008 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Funeral service will be held at 1PM Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Doug Klein officiating. Burial in Flint Memorial Park. Visitation 5-8PM Monday and 10AM Tuesday until the time of the service at the funeral home. George was born in Flint, Michigan on April 11, 1918 and was a resident of the Flint area his entire life. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II (Battle of the Bulge). He was a participant in the 1936-1937 Sit-down Strike. Mr. Rex was employed at Chevrolet Manufacturing for 35 years, retiring as a millwright. Surviving are sons, Thomas and wife Cheryl of Gaines, George of Flint; 3 daughters, Leona and husband Howard Johnston of Saginaw, Connie and husband Stephen Vanderkarr of Davison, Janet and husband Craig Carpenter of Ludington, MI; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Ethel Rosa and Evelyn Larkin, both of Flint; several nieces and nephews.
