Not sure what to say?

I took his course by accident and was surprised that the lecture hall was standing room only. His answers to question made you believe you were listening to the author of the theory directly. He finished his last lecture ten minutes early and the entire lecture hall stood and applauded until ten minutes after he left. He was clearly the best professor I ever had.

George was a gentleman and a scholar, and a real friend. He will be missed.

Great memories of a great man. Louie and Julie

What a loss. I knew George in graduate school at Yale in the 1950´s. Everyone was smart but George had a special twinkle about him, a robust laugh and pleasure in things. And in all the years since he left New Haven I felt fortunate to be on his e-mail chain of humor and things Jewish. With his ready supply of jokes I became the life of the party. I am saddened by news of George's death and am finding comfort in my memories of time with him, especially a very warm and open conversation we had in Independence Park in Philadelphia while attending a Division 39 Meeting. My condolences to Gay and his family.

To Gay and George's family, I am very sorry to learn of George's death. He remains an ideal figure tom and it was always such enjoyment to be in his presence.

I was so fortunate that as a UM undergrad George hired me as a research assistant in 1965. He was an extraordinary role model as I subsequently became a tenured psych prof at Vanderbilt University and internship training director. He graciously corresponded with me and I thanked him for his kindness and early support. His family, friends, colleagues and students were so fortunate to have George in their lives. My deepest condolences to his loved ones.

A wonderful teacher and friend. I am so grateful to have caught up with him and Gay several times in the past few years at Kerrytown Concert House.
