George A. Rossmeisl, Jr. entered into eternal rest on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at the age of 89. George was born in Greenfield, Massachusetts. He was the son of Gladys (Hohengasser) and George Rossmeisl, Sr. George was a life-long resident of West Springfield and attended local schools. He was a Firefighter for the Town of West Springfield for 27 years, retiring in 1985, and proprietor of George A. Rossmeisl Plumbing and Heating. George was a former town meeting member, a member of the Melha Shriners of Springfield and a part of the Shriners mini-bike group riding circus parade, as well as various town parades. He was an avid polka fan, and he, along with his late wife Helena, attended numerous polka dances over the years. George enjoyed going to his family cottage in South Hadley on the Connecticut River to simply relax, go boating and water ski with his family and friends. He was a member of the Chicopee Lodge of Elks #1849, Polish American Citizens’ Club of Ludlow, MA and the West Springfield Fire Department Local 2212. George was a member of the First Congregational Church in West Springfield and served as an usher for a number of years. He served his country in the Army during the Korean War. George is survived by two sons; Leonard and his wife Pauline Rossmeisl. of West Hartford, CT, and Stephen and his wife Anne-Marie Rossmeisl of Pelham, N.H.; two daughters, Elizabeth “Lisa” Lagasse and her husband Paul Lagasse, Jr. and Georgette Swistak of Feeding Hills, seven grandchildren, Paul and Jeffrey Lagasse, Alyssa and Brendon Rossmeisl, Samantha and Justin Swistak, and Stephanie Rossmeisl, five great-grandchildren, Gavin, Giuliana and Grady Lagasse, and Madelyn and Wyatt Shelly: six brothers, Edward and his wife Shirley Rossmeisl, John and his wife Marthe Rossmeisl, James and his wife Betty Rossmeisl, David Rossmeisl, Philip Rossmeisl, Paul Rossmeisl; six sisters, Virginia Dagasse, Esther Line, Ruth Fields, Sally and her husband Lawrence Maziarz, Marlene and her husband Frank Czepiel, and Linda Drozdowski. George is also survived by many nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his wife Helena “Helen” T. (Ostrowski) Rossmeisl in November 1997; son-in-law Walter J. Swistak in 2012; his mother Gladys V. (Hohengasser) Rossmeisl in 2016, his father George A. Rossmeisl Sr. in 1963; five sisters Barbara Krupienski, Gail Gonet, Marie Aseltine, Doris Dahowski and Gladys Cowan; brother-in-laws Tad Drozdowski, John Dagasse, Charlie Fields, Richard Line, Richard Aseltine, James Krupienski, William Gonet, Joseph Dahowski and Earl Cowan; sister-in-law Cathy Rossmeisl. The Rossmeisl family would love to thank the fantastic staff at The Atrium at Cardinal Drive as well as Beacon Hospice for the care that was given to our dad in his time of need. The funeral will be Friday at 10am at Curran Jones Funeral Home, 109 Main Street, West Springfield with a service at 11. The burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in George’s name to Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St. Springfield, MA 01104.

He was our neighbor for many years. Our boys and our daughter all delivered the Sunday Newspaper for years. He came to our home many times with his trusty plumbing bucket to rescue our family. He will be rembered.
