Not sure what to say?

George, I celebrated my 90th back in Jan. and at a gathering of old track friends from Northeast Running Club at the home of Rick and Kathleen Webb in Bass Lake, your name came up in our "running talk," as it always does. It seems as if you're still with us. Thanks for everything. Hugs, Grace Butcher

I often saw George in Heinen's Cafe; we always paused to chat. He never seemed to change. He towered over me as we exchanged our latest sports activities. One of the world's Good Guys.

What an incredible life your dad had! This incredible and great obit only scratches the surface.

Our dads were friends from days of being Eagle Scouts in the same troop, then high school classmates at Shaker (as Kristin and I were at Hawken, a generation later), and friends in post-war Cleveland.

One of many stories is that during the war your dad wrote to my dad a letter describing the Battle of the Bulge but it was written on toilet paper, and Dad's mom threw it...

God bless George as he finds peace in the arms of our Lord. May his loved ones find comfort in the wonderful memories ❤ they share of his long-lived life with them and all who knew and loved him as I did. I will continue to miss our story-telling lunches at Heinen's and the many columns I wrote of his great achievements in all of his sports. His intellect was unparalleled and his warm personality made our visits the best! I will also vividly remember his stories in Second World War Europe....

So so many happy memories here for our Uncle Bud. Too many to count.

Love,
Holly, Casey, Amy, Craig and for sure Jane his sister

I have had the pleasure of meeting and befriending George many years ago at the YMCA in Painesville, Ohio, where he came to swim. He said I used to inspire him with my swimming, but I always told him he inspired me, being 30 years older. I always loved hearing (as much as he did telling) about his recent athletic accomplishments (which were worth bragging about!!) and I had to laugh when he told me he couldn't wait until he turned 90 because then he would be in a different age category! Ha,...
