George Segal Obituary

George I. Segal peacefully passed away in his sleep Wednesday, July 30, 2014.

George was born on March 27, 1927 in Everett, MA to David and Bella (Sanel) Segal. He spent his summers in New Hampshire visiting with his grandparents Benjamin and Tillie Sanel. George and his family moved to Concord when he was a small child. George graduated from Concord High school in 1944.

He was immediately drafted and served in the army in Europe at the end of WWII. After he received his honorable discharge, he joined his family business, Sanel Auto Parts Co. He spent his entire career at the company, rising through the organization and was the Chairman of the board.

George was an avid sports fan and actively participated in many sports when he was a young man. George was involved in many leagues that included the Sunset baseball league, YMCA basketball, bowling, and the Wonalancet Badminton club. Up until recently, he was an avid golfer and played in the Thursday night league for many years. George was a fifty year member of the Concord Country club. In 1984, he hit a hole-in-one on hole #4 at Concord Country Club. George was an active member in the Auto-Care Industry.

During the past fifty years, he served on numerous boards and manufacturer advisory boards. George was a firm believer of supporting the community and was involved with numerous non-profit organizations which included the Concord Boys & Girls Club, Pope-Memorial Concord SPCA, Capital Center for the Arts, Concord Hospital, and Temple Beth Jacob. He was a lifelong member of Temple Beth Jacob. He served on numerous boards and committees, including serving as the president of the Temple and chairman of the board of trustees.

Most importantly, George was dedicated to his family. He adored his wife, Jody, who kept his home spotless and was a constant source of joy throughout his over 50 years of marriage. George loved to spend his free time with his children, grandchildren, and three adorable cats, Sylvester, Sebastian, and Sammy Davis, Jr.

George was an avid reader and a life-time New England major league sports fan and has had season tickets to the Red Sox for over 40 years.

George was pre-deceased by his brother, Norman.

He leaves his wife, Jody; his daughter, Lisa; his son, Bobby, and his wife, Betsy; his son, David, and his wife, Ellen; his son, Alan, and his daughter, Becky, and her husband, Dan. In addition, he leaves ten grand-children: Lindsey, Sydney, Benjamin, Jackson, Gabrielle, Jane, Allison, Hillary, Libby and Jonathan.

Services will be held on Friday, August 1, at Temple Beth Jacob 67 Broadway Ave, in Concord at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Blossom Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in George's memory to Temple Beth Jacob, The NH Kidney Foundation, and the Pope-Memorial SPCA.
