George-Shoffner-Obituary

George C. Shoffner

Obituary

George Christian Shoffner, 58, of Earlysville, Virginia, lost his gallant battle with lymphoma on Thursday, February 14, 2008, at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.

Born April 16, 1949, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, he was the son of the late Robert Shoffner and Gabrielle Mayer Shoffner. Mr. Shoffner brought his young family to Charlottesville in 1951 where George grew up and graduated from the University of Virginia in 1971. He was a real estate broker and a self employed real estate appraiser.

George was known best for his many talents and interests. He had a vast knowledge of music and was a wonderfully self taught musician of the guitar and mandolin. He was a talented photographer. His favorite passions, though, were gourmet cooking, cycling and traveling. Throughout his illness he was inspired by his cycling to "Put his head down and keep peddling" even if it was often uphill, into the wind. George also had a wicked sense of humor, a talent for mimickery and his many "George-isms" will forever be remembered with a smile. He was a great friend.

George is survived by his loving wife, Connie; his identical twin brother, Charles, of Crozet, Virginia and Robert Shoffner Jr. of Arlington, Virginia; as well as his wonderful children, Elizabeth Shoffner of Brooklyn, New York and Andrew Shoffner of Carrboro, North Carolina.

A celebration of George's life will be held from 2 until 5 p.m. Sunday, March 9, 2008, at the Veritas Winery in Afton, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Caring for Creatures, 352 Sanctuary Lane, Palmyra, VA 22963 (www.caringforcreatures.co m); the Service Dogs of Virginia, 811 Preston Avenue, Charlottesville, VA; or to the Virginia Blood Services, 2401 Hydraulic Road, Charlottesville, VA 22901.

A very special thank you is extended to the compassionate and knowledgeable Dr. James Boyer and Dr. Stefan Gorsch as well as the wonderful nurses and staff of H.O.P.E. A special thank you too for the loving care always given by the nurses and staff of Martha Jefferson Hospital.
