George Francis Spriggs, 65, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather went to his eternal resting place on June 3rd, 2004. Son of the late George Phillip and Margurite Matilda Spriggs, was born on August 6, 1938.

Francis, as he was more affectionately called, was educated in the Charles County Public School System in Maryland. He enjoyed spending time with family, working on the farm and listening to gospel music.

In addition to his parents, Francis was preceded in death by his sister, Alice Montgomery, nephew, Jeffrey D. Montgomery and sister-in-law, Annie Hurd.

Francis leaves behind his loving wife of forty-seven years, Shirley; three sons, Francis A. (Peanut), Lorenza (Andy) and David; two daughters, Brenda and Barbara; seven grandchildren; Allen, Steven, Darnell, Tyrone, Atraya, Montisha and Shray; Mother-in-law, Gertrude Smallwood; two daughters-in-law, Alice and Kay; one son-in-law, Michael Bean; a devoted friend that he loved and cherished as a second mother, Mary L. Smith; seven brothers, Sylvester, William, John (Johnny), Charles (Edward), Robert, Harold and James (Jimmy); seven sisters, Margaret (Luvenia) Montgomery, Roberta (Louise) Jordan, Evelyn Dashiell, Elizabeth (Mickey) Riley, Virginia (Germaine) Farmer, Eleanor Kitt and Mary Katherine Waugh; eight sisters-in-law, Mary Lyles, Mary Coates (Sis), Verla Spriggs, Faye Spriggs, Melon Spriggs, Barbara Holt, Rose Mary Spriggs and Lorraine Ford; eight brothers-in-law, Benjamin (Benny) Coates, Freddie Lyles, Reginald Montgomery, Cecil Jordan, Jerome (Romie) Riley, Thomas Dashiell, William (Bill) Farmer and Darryl (Peanut) Kitt; Great uncle and aunt, James Edward and Helen Spriggs of North Carolina and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

The Viewing will be held on Wednesday, June 9th from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, with Prayer Service at 7:00 pm at Thornton Funeral Home Chapel, 3439 Livingston Road (State Route #227) in Pomonkey, Maryland.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 10th 10:00 am at Our Lady Help of Christian Church, 100 Village Street, Waldorf, Maryland.

The Interment will be in St. Catherine’s Catholic Church Cemetery, Port Tobacco Road (Route #6) in Mc Conchie, Maryland
