Bailey & Foster Funeral Home - Palestine Obituary

George W. Stone Jr., 69, of Palestine, Texas, and formerly of Gonzales, Louisiana, passed away on April 11, 2023. He was born in New Orleans on May 2, 1953, to parents George W. Stone Sr. and Edith Stone. Growing up, George lived in various cities in Texas and Louisiana where his dad worked as a superintendent for the Missouri Pacific Railroad.

During his years at Palestine High School, George participated in sports and choir. After graduating in 1971, he moved to Baton Rouge to attend LSU. He was known to be knowledgeable in countless subjects, including cars, music, and history. He enjoyed troubleshooting, problem-solving, and playing his guitars.

George worked for over 20 years at Rubicon in Geismar, Louisiana, serving as a production shift foreman in the MDI-2 Unit. He served as the MDI-2 lead for turnarounds and was described to be a master at his position. George had many good memories of his Rubicon family. Following his 2012 retirement, he moved back to Palestine to marry and to happily live out his life taking care of his farm. He applied his strong work ethic to the beautification, care, and maintenance of the farm, gaining praise from many passersby.

George liked music, trees, plants, birds, and all nature. He was a Christian who embraced daily prayer and thoughtful meditation. Those close to George know that he had a heart larger than life and that it made him happy to be asked to help fill a need.

He is survived by his wife, Julia Dorman Stone, four children: James Stone, Gregory Stone, Sara Webb, and Elizabeth Harrison; two stepchildren: Clayton Coleman and Katy Coleman; thirteen grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. His ashes will be buried on a beautiful hill, a spot he enjoyed, in a private ceremony attended by those who loved him dearly.

Memorials may be made to BARC, The Humane Society, PO Box 63, Palestine, Texas 75802.

Rest easy my friend

George - you were a prince of a guy in high school, and it appears that was true throughout your life. You have left us far too soon. Julia - I pray that you and your family will find peace in your memories and personal faith. BF
