Hills Funeral and Cremation Services at Lack & Sons Chapel Obituary

George A. Vrame, 88, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2017. He was born in Chicago, played football in the US Army and at the University of Iowa, where he was also President of the Sigma Chi Fraternity house (Alpha Eta Chapter). In 1951, he climbed the Grand Teton Mountain in Wyoming. He operated the Rex Insurance Agency and the Sigma Oil Company, an independent oil producer in the Wabash River Basin until his retirement. He was actively involved with Boy Scout Troop 700 at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Oak Lawn, and later a member at St. Basil’s Church, Chicago, where he loved to sit in the last row. For many years he was an avid skier, especially in the Colorado Rockies, with Mountain Master training. He is survived by his wife Maria (Chicos) of 60 years and their sons, Rev. Prof. Anton Vrame of Boston, and Chris Vrame and his wife Demetra of Sacramento. He adored his grandchildren George and Katherine. He was the eldest son of Anton and Katherine Vrame, and leaves behind his younger brother Peter, his brother-in-law Theodore Callas, and sister-in-law Angie (Babanicols) Vrame and their families. His older sisters Evangeline, Ethel (Callas), and younger brother Prof. William predeceased him.

George’s family would like to thank the staff at Aperion Care Oak Lawn for their amazing care and love they showed to George in these last months of his life.
