George Emil "Judd" Wainwright

As a cub reporter at the Oscoda Press from May 1983 through August of 1984, Judd was always available to me for comments for sports articles. He was an excellent leader, teacher, coach and example for young people. Just a fine gentleman all around.

Judd had moved to Arenac Grade school (7th grade) just two months before I did and it was my first day of school when I first met Judd. He came up to me and said, "I'm new here, as of two months ago, so let me show you around and get acquainted" From that day on, Judd and I were the best of friend. Mr. Wainwright was my high school math teacher and wrestling coach. Patient and kind do not begin to describe his demeanor. We were not the most behaved students, which is a little bit of an understatement. Mr. Wainwright would let things get just so far and then pull us back in line. He was an excellent role model; I'm pleased that we maintained contact in our adult years.
