Loving Family Matriarch
Georgette Florence (Davignon) Nelson, 83, of Pleasant Avenue, Attleboro died on Monday, April 26, 2010 upon arrival at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro after being stricken ill at her residence. She was the wife of George Gordon Nelson to whom she was married on August 13, 1949.
Born in Norton, Massachusetts on May 16, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Harvey and Marie (Bilodeau) Davignon. She was a lifelong resident of the City of Attleboro and in her youth attended St. Joseph’s School.
Mrs. Nelson was a dedicated and devoted homemaker who made her house a home for her husband and children and, in later years, her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church where she served as a volunteer CCD teacher.
Years ago, Mrs. Nelson was a volunteer at the Attleboro YMCA where she assisted developmentally challenged children.
Her favorite pastimes included bird watching and playing bingo.
Mrs. Nelson was happiest when creating lifelong memories for her family to cherish forever.
In addition to her husband of almost 61 years, she leaves ten children: Karen Quimby of Fairfax, Virginia; Janet Hinton of Attleboro; Joan Barros of Norton; Judith Ela of Norton; Gordon Nelson of North Attleboro; Mark Nelson of Mansfield; Christyne Nelson of Attleboro; Robert “Sam” Nelson of Attleboro; Laurie Nelson of Attleboro and Erik Nelson of Attleboro; 27 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; two brothers: Bertrand Davignon of Delta, Colorado and Gerard Davignon of Cohoes, New York; numerous nieces and nephews, extended family members and friends.
She was the sister of the late Florence Boucher, Bernadette Donley, Anita Hamel, Norman Davignon, Jeannette Gavin, Albert Davignon and Philip Davignon.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Thursday, April 29, 2010 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM in the “Memorial Chapel” of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home – the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, ¾ mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro.
Children’s room available during visitation.
Those in need of a ride to visitation may simply call the funeral home at (508) 695-0200 to make an advance reservation for such gratis transportation.
Family and friends are cordially invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, April 30, 2010 at 10:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 133 North Main Street – Route 152, Attleboro.
There will be no funeral cortege from the funeral home prior to the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will follow in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Attleboro.
Following cemetery services, family and friends will be welcomed to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at a location to be announced.
Please do not send flowers. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dyer-Lake Charitable Foundation, Inc., a registered 501 (c) (3) organization, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, North Attleboro, MA 02760 to benefit the Sturdy Memorial Foundation Oncology Department.

Happy Birthday Mom! You would have been 84 years old today- we celebrated it at your house tonight and we signed happy birthday wishes to you on some helium balloons and released them into the sky in memory of you. I love you Mom and I miss you so much! Drive slow.

I am so sorry about your Mom / Gram. She was a wonderful woman. I have a lot of great and warm memories of her. I will never forget summers at the Cape. It was a pleasure being a part of the family for the time I was. I will always remember her. My thoughts are with you.
