Georgia Econome

November 21, 1926 - October 7, 2025

Sacramento, California - Georgia (Karneges) Econome passed away on October 7, 2025 at almost 99 years old. She is survived by daughters Janet Econome (Dave Collins) and Nancy Econome (Daniel Gutierrez) and grandchildren Jessica and Thomas Gutierrez as well as sister-in-law Avery Econome, cousins Nick & Ann Econome and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

Georgia was born on November 21, 1926 in Sacramento, California to William and Helen Karneges. Her loving older sisters were Marian, Connie and Anne. She graduated in the last class of WWII Army Cadette Nurses, working in Oakland hospitals with soldiers returning from war. In 1950 Georgia married the love of her life Ted Econome. After moving to Sacramento in 1955 they established and operated Land Park Pharmacy until retirement in 1992.

Georgia was enthusiastic about all artistic projects and was instrumental in creating major art installations for Sacramento's Greek Food Festival. Georgia was an accomplished oil painter, businesswoman and manager adding her artistic vision to the pharmacy. Georgia and Ted loved all their customers making their store a true community pharmacy. In later years, Georgia was passionate about arranging tours for the Greek Orthodox Church's senior group with the goal of enriching the lives of fellow seniors. She also loved politics and volunteered on many campaigns.

A funeral is scheduled for October 29, 2025 at 10:30am at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation in Sacramento with a reception to follow. Donations can be made to the Ted and Georgia Econome Endowed Pharmacy Scholarship at University of the Pacific Advancement Office, 3601 Pacific Avenue, Stockton, CA 95211 or the Annunciation Senior League at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation at 616 Alhambra Street, Sacramento, CA 95816.

Dear Janet and Nancy,

I can´t express in words how much both your father and mother meant to me in my life. As you both know, they were like parents to me. Their love and guidance help shape my life for years to come. The love and care they provided me, not only at my time at the pharmacy, but over the years as I raised my own family, I will always cherish. The friendship I shared with your mother was very special to me and I loved sharing time with her when given the opportunity. She was always supportive, upbeat, and caring. The loss that I feel today with Georgia passing is very hard, but I take solace in knowing that she is with our Lord now and will be forever.

Georgia was Axia- Worthy as the Greeks say. In every way she embodied this grand word.

She was a lady of integrity, artistry, dignity, faith, love and so much kindness.

I will miss her terribly ! She was my friend, a role model and through her motherhood gave me one of my most beloved friends, Nancy.

I will forever love you Georgia and cherish every moment I had with you!

I remember Georgia fondly from Janet and my law school days in San Francisco when we were roommates. I´ll never forget the surprise I had coming home from school to find Georgia on top of a counter cleaning the apartment to make it nice for her daughter. I said "now that´s a mom I would like to have!" I´m glad she had such a long life with a beautiful family! And my sympathy goes to all of Georgia´s family.

Ted and Georgia were our neighbors on Del Rio Road. However, they were much more than that, they were our friends. My eldest daughter was fortunate enough to have her first job at Land Park Pharmacy. May Georgia's memory be a blessing!
