Georgiana Messina of Huntingdon Valley, beloved wife to Anthony and loving mother to Marisa and Gina, passed away at the age of 69 on May 26, 2020.

Georgiana was born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Norman and Dorothy (Halleck) Nicklaus in Philadelphia. She graduated from Saint Hubert’s High School in 1968 and graduated from Temple University in 1975. She later received her masters degree. She was a public school teacher for the School District of Philadelphia for over 30 years. She touched the lives of many students and teachers during her numerous years as an educator. She was loved deeply by her family and friends, and will be greatly missed by many.

Georgiana and Anthony met in 1976 at the popular McGillians bar in Philadelphia. Anthony describes Georgiana as a bright light that saved him shortly after the passing of both of his parents. Georgiana and Anthony were married in 1979 and were married for 40 years.

Georgiana’s family and friends would agree that she knew how to light up a room with her vibrant personality. She loved to make people laugh. She was a free spirit and lived her life to the fullest. She was one of a kind and left a mark on everyone she met. She was known as “Mrs. Sunshine” in many of the schools she taught at because she was a beautiful ray of sunshine in everyone’s day. She was very caring and would do anything for anyone.

She loved saving animals especially birds, fish and dogs and had many pets throughout her life. She enjoyed staying active and was able to run the Broad Street four times after the age of 60, which she was very proud of. She loved the beach and sitting on the beach for hours taking in the peaceful sounds and sights of the ocean. She was able to fulfill her life long dream of traveling to Paris, France twice in the last 3 years, where she had the time of her life drinking wine, eating croissants and visiting the Eiffel Tower.

Georgiana is survived by her children Marisa and Gina, her husband Anthony and brother-in-law Robert.

Due to the current pandemic, Georgiana’s family will be celebrating her life in the near future with a memorial service and celebration of life to honor her beautiful life. Updates on the details of the memorial will be posted. The Messina family thanks you for all of your love and support at this very difficult time. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the National Brain Tumor Society.

Not sure what to say?

Tony, Gina and Marisa, I hope that all of you know how sorry I am for your loss. Georgy and I became such good friends. She was so kindhearted , funny, and loving. She loved all of you so much! Love you Georgy!

Thank you to the family for sharing Georgy with us. I met Georgy when we both taught at Disston Elementary. Georgy was a wonderful, warm, wacky woman. It was evident how much she loved her students. Georgy worked hard to make sure they succeeded. In addition, Georgy's classroom was always colorful, comfortable, and felt like home. It was a joy to work with her. I got to know another side of Georgy on Facebook. I learned about her great faith, and love of travel, music, nature, and pets. I...
