Gerald James Fawcett died on June 30 of complications from a stroke. Jim grew up in several places, but since 1962 made Tyringham, MA his home. Born on January 23, 1939 in Chicago, his early years were spent in Ridgewood, NJ. After his father died when Jim was 10, he moved with his mother to...

Not sure what to say?

Rest in Peace Mr. Fawcett. I haven´t been able process that you aren´t with us anymore. Now that it´s been over a year since you´ve passed on, I hope I can express how deeply you impacted me as a young person. To this day I think "what would Mr. Fawcett think of this?" I use your moral compass to guide me to this day. You are an inspiration and intellectual who has helped to shape the minds of so many of us. I treasure the stories you wove. You wove them into the very fabric of my being. ...

Jim an Eugenie made a very special and lasting impression on me when I worked on their farm on Fernside in the Summer of 62 or 63 building their fences and saving for my first guitar... Jim was one of the best teachers I ever had and Eugenie tutored me Latin..It was great Summer in another time and I was very sorry I was not able to make the funeral...to all the family my deepest condolences!!! Best Walter Palmer

A fine man, a fine educator, with a love of his students and for what they could achieve.

So sad to have recently heard of Mr. Fawcett's passing. I've been working in Cambridge for many years, and when I'm around Harvard and Radcliffe I'm often reminded of the stories of Mr. and Mrs. Fawcett meeting in college. Mr. Fawcett was a special teacher and a good person whose unique intellect and charm will be remembered by generations of former students.

We're remembering the many good times at St. Paul's when our children were young - glad you two had so many good years together. Love, Jim & Karen

Dearest Eugenie, John, Donald, Nan and James, It breaks my heart that in the end I won't be able to be present on Monday. I haven't met many people in my life as kind or as clear in spirit as Jim. He was, truly as fine a man as I've ever met, and I won't forget him. With love, Kent Jones

Eugenie, Our thoughts are with you, needless to say, in these difficult days following Jim's passing. As we hope you know, Jim was important to our entire family, not only because of his direct influence on Eva and Ben, but his presence to us as a man who was a remarkably inspiring teacher as well as a great exemplar of what it is to be a man in our time. With love and condolences, Marc and Vivienne
