Not sure what to say?

The service today did him justice both in his working life and as a family man. Like others here, I remember particularly a sympathetic ear and some good advice at a time when I needed it. He was a great public servant and a good man.

I have had the pleasure of meeting Gerald this past year, and his family. What a beautiful family. Gerald, you were humble gentleman and I will miss you dearly. May the angels guide you and give peace. Lizzy Hall

So sorry to hear that Gerald has passed away, he was an outstanding servant of New Zealand. Our condolences to you all.

A life well lived. A country well served. A family much loved. Bravo!

Caroline, I was saddened to learn of Gerald's death. He was very kind to me during a difficult period in the early 80's. I enormously appreciated his sage advice. His contribution to New Zealand foreign policy development and execution will long be remembered by those who were privileged to work with him.

Sorry to hear of Gerald's passing. Regards and condolences to all the family.

I am sad to hear that Gerald has died and we have lost a great New Zealander. Gerald was Colonel Commandant of the New Zealand Intelligence Corps and helped me to host a Singaporean Chief of Defence Intelligence visit. His advice and connection was greatly appreciated. Rest in Peace Gerald. Regards, Colonel (Retired) Kevin Arlidge late of the NZIC

Dear Caroline, Gerald, Sarah and Sophie, Maria and I were saddened to learn the news about your Father's death. He was a wonderful man and a true gentleman, as well as an esteemed diplomat and scholar. He was fortunate to have lived a very full life. Our thoughts are with you and the rest of the family. Yours, Peter and Maria

Gerald was a fine man, a wonderful chief executive, a great travelling companion, a giant among senior NZ public servants. It was a privilege to be one of his staff for 5 years at MoD.
