Not sure what to say?

Father "Coach", I have great memories of you at Spring Hill College in the '70's and our soul-searching conversations at The Note. We'll miss you. J.Adams (SHC Class of 79.)

Fr. Hughes married my husband and I at St. Rita's in 2001. He counseled us throughout our engagement and made our wedding very special. Though we moved away, he's always been a special part of our memories and we will continue to remember his service, faith and dedication to Christ. He will be missed by many, but the world was blessed to have him.

Father Jerry was the first cousin to my mother Jane Hemmelgarn. His mother was my Godmother. He and his brothers Father Ed and Father Don made our family proud to have three brothers all answer the call to the priesthood. They are all together again in Gods house and will be missed.

Dear Jerry, we will miss you very much. You were such a good friend to us and our family and shared so many events and holidays with us.
Your guidance, support, love and good humor will never be forgotten.
We love you.

Fr. Hughes, you were a great friend to our family and especially my Father. I was fortunate enough to read a copy of your last Homily given at St. Rita several years ago and I will never forget it. Your words changed my life and beliefs forever. Say hi to my Dad in Heaven and pray for all us. God bless you.

I remember Fr. Hughes at St. Rita's when I was a member of the Young Singles group many many years ago. I enjoyed his sense of humor and total honesty about himself. I would always get a straight answer from Fr. Jerry. I hope he continues to watch and guide over us in spirit as he did in life.

We will miss you Coach!

"Coach" Father Hughes will be greatly missed! He taught me all 4 semesters of Calculus and was always there for me as an advisor and friend. In those days at SHC, I remember going to Coach's office in Quinlan Hall overlooking the baseball diamond. He was instrumental in making me
pursue a degree in Mathematics, which served me very well in my career.
Father Hughes, you were the best!
Marian ~ Class of '76

Fr. Hughes occasionally said 5:30 PM mass at St. Dominic Parish. I always enjoyed his homilies. But mostly I deeply appreciated his very special way of making everyone feel relaxed and at peace. You knew this was a man of God who he served so well.

May God be with you always!
