Markiewicz Funeral Home, P.C. - Lemont Obituary

Gerald Seper, 82, of Joliet since 2005 and formerly of Chicago Lawn on the Southwest side of Chicago, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2023.

Born March 12, 1940 in Chicago, Jerry was the son of the late Steve and Rose (Kovacs) Seper. He was a graduate of St. Rita High School (1958) and Lewis College (University, 1962). Jerry worked as a production supervisor in many areas of manufacturing throughout his career in the Chicagoland area, retiring in 2005.

Jerry was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend. Those closest to him will forever remember his warmth, generosity, sincerity, and humor. He was the kind of man who gave everything and expected nothing in return. His personal mantra was, “I will never have a million dollars, but my family makes me the richest man in the world.” Jerry made his small part of the world a better place.

Surviving are his loving children, Janet Seper (Charles Beckenstein), Kristin (Nick) Aleman, and Stephen (Laura) Seper; his adoring grandchildren Jacqueline, Mia, Matthew, Madelynn, Margaret, Sonja, and Zoe; his beautiful great-granddaughter Lyla; his fond sister Christine (the late Richard) Rados; his dearest cousin Judith Kovacs; his most loving friend and confidant Joan Weber; and many other family and friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Joan (Gazda).

A memorial visitation for Jerry Seper will be February 11, 2023 from 9:00 AM-11:00 AM at SS. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church 608 Sobieski St., Lemont, IL. A memorial mass will immediately follow at 11:00 AM. Internment will be held privately at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Evergreen Park, IL, at a later date.

Not sure what to say?

Jerry and I were classmates at Lewis College and I considered him my best friend throughout all my college days. He is most fondly remembered because, when he found out I was a college junior and had never gone on a date, he was flabbergasted! I remember what he said: "Man ... I gotta fix that!" and he did; he twisted the arm of a co-ed we both knew to accompany he and Joan on a double date. I -we - had a great time! We also doubled up to go to our senior prom, after which we never went...
