Not sure what to say?

Yes. He deserved better. For some reason, I just happened to think of Dr. Katzin and searched Google only to find his obit. He was a great help to me as one of my profs at NCSU in 1967 when I had a motorcycle accident and again in 1969 when he was my advisor of my special project class on relativity. I am really sad to read this.

Over the past many years of walking the greenway, I have had many delightful encounters and conversations with Jerry, " the mayor of the greenway." I laugh at the memory of him saying "I'm so old that I don't even buy green bananas anymore." We were shocked to see the obituary and miss seeing the cheery sight of Jerry's orange jacket and smile. The obituary was such a lovely tribute to a special man. Our condolences to the entire Katzin family.

Mr. Katzin, thank you for all the nice things you did for BJ and I when we were roomies at Chapel Hill. I will remember your quick fixes for our dorm woes, the kugel and other foods you dropped off from BJ's mom, the quick conversations about course work. Rest in peace...

May he rest in peace!

I have known Gerry Katzin since 1991 when I moved to the US.

I will never forget Gerry’s generous help and support he provided to me and my family in our first years in Raleigh. Gerry was my friend, my mentor, my life adviser, and my research collaborator. Gerry, Judy and their family and friends did their best to help us when we needed it the most.
Gerry Katzin was a very special man; the world will not be the same without him.
My deepest condolences to Judy, Larry and...

My deepest condolences to all the Katzin family. I started out at NC State in the fall of 1969 as a physics major, and Dr. Katzin taught my first physics class that spring. I was having a rough time due to some health issues, and Dr. Katzin was understanding (in a time when college professors typically weren’t—it was an era of sink or swim quite different from today’s more lenient university culture). He was younger than most of the other physics professors, only in his mid-thirties, and...

A delightful obituary for a delightful man.

Dear Larry. I am so so sorry to hear about the loss of your father. May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

Forty-five years ago (how can that be?) I was a grad student sitting in Dr. Katzin's Advanced Theoretical Mechanics classes. What an amazing instructor: he breathed life into the mathematics and fire into our hearts... and what an intellect! After I retired five years ago, with remorse I finally got rid of all of my notes from grad school; all except Dr. Katzin's. I couldn't bear the thought. I've left that job to my children.
Godspeed, Gerald Katzin, and thank you!
