Gerald M. KEATING

I was one of the colleagues he worked with on Pioneer Venus and other missions. More importantly, we were friends and regularly dined together when we met up at conferences around the world. His loss is keenly felt.

Gerald will be greatly missed. Holidays will never be the same without him and his brother, Barry. He was a true character, a man of mystery, and being around him meant that the moment would never be dull.

I shall dearly miss my cousin, Gerald. Needless to say, I have known him forever and always enjoyed our family visits with him and his brother, Barry, and Aunt Marcy and Uncle John. In adulthood he and Barry spent many, many holidays with me and my family. The conversations between Gerald and Barry were fascinating. Gerald always won any arguments between the two of them. Gerald was the most interesting person I have ever known! I love you!

Gerald and I were close friends from Kindergarten on. He and I and a couple other friends spent many hours on extracurricular science projects during elementary school. It was a great shock to hear of his passing. He will be missed. He did indeed live life to the fullest.

Although Dr. Keating is no long with us, his years of accomplishments will impact the field for years to come....He lives on through his many great successes! Tammy Miller (Newport News, VA)

I am writing this eulogy in memory of my good friend, Dr. Gerald M. Keating, who passed away on Nov 27’10. I had known Dr. Keating since early sixties, when I was the Chief Scientist of the Instrument Research Division and Dr. Keating was a Senior Research Scientist with Atmospheric sciences Division at the NASA Langley Research Center. I have thoroughly enjoyed making discoveries with Gerry using Venus and Mars spacecraft over many years. His sense of wonder and zeal for life never ceased to amaze me. Most of all I greatly enjoyed his friendship. He will be greatly missed..

The multi-decadal experience and sense of wonder and excitement Gerry found in discovering, comparing, and contrasting climatological patterns of the upper atmospheres of Venus, Earth, and Mars will be missed.

Gerry worked hard and played hard. He knew life is short and lived it to the fullest, 24/7.
