Gerald Kowalchik

COLUMBIA - Services for Gerald “Jerry” Kowalchik, 72, will be held Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Kowalchik, husband of Barbara Schaub Kowalchik, died Thursday, May 7, 2009. Born in Bayonne, NJ, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Mildred Jabina Kowalchik. He had retired from Rainsford Management and was a member of Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed bowling and walking.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara Kowalchik of Columbia; children, Jeanne Hanasewych and husband, Teddy, of Pennsylvania, Richard Kowalchik and wife, Mary, of Merritt Island, Fla., Kathy Walker and husband, John, of Port St. Lucy Fla.; stepdaughter, Kathy Silva of West Columbia; brother, Michael Kowalchik of Trenton, N.J.; four grandchildren, Sara Walker, Austin Walker, Janell Houghton, Matthew Hammett; and sister-in-law, DeDe Johnson of Hopkins, S.C. He was preceded in death by a sister, Elaine Schwerk.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
