COLUMBIA—Graveside services for Gerald “Vic” McVey, 59, of Columbia, will be held at 11 a.m. in Elmwood Cemetery with Military Honors, Rev. Adrian Moldovan will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday evening at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.

Mr. McVey died on Sunday, February 17, 2008. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Jack G. and Sarah Belle Clowney McVey. He was a lifelong area resident and served as a Sergeant in the United States Marines, during the Vietnam conflict. He was owner and operator of Dependable Building and Lawn Maintenance. He was a loving and caring father, grandfather, and brother. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Surviving are his daughter, Sarah McVey of Columbia; son and daughter-in-law, Tracey and Shannon McVey of Lexington; grandchildren, Ashlynn and Payton McVey, Dylan, Tyler and McKenzie Miller; sisters, Sue Smoak of Greenwood, Jackie Moon (Harold Beard) of West Columbia; brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Karen McVey of Hayesville, NC, Chris and Karen McVey of Columbia, Danny and Kathy McVey of Hopkins. Mr. McVey was preceded in death by his brother Phil McVey.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Dorn VA Medical Center for their compassionate care shown to our Father and family during our time of need.
