Gerald lived only three and one-half blocks from me, so I knew Gerald before we got to high school and graduated together. When I was in elementary school and in middle school I delivered the Greenwood Commonwealth to the Staples home on Mississippi Avenue. I was hoping to see Gerald at the GHS Class of '63 Fiftieth Reunion last April, but someone told me he was too ill. I share your grief and will pray for you and your family.

Joanne, Gerald and I lived down the street from each other on Miss. Ave. and we always had a good time together playing football, or whatever else we got into. I'm sorry to say we had lost contact over the last few years, and regret that we didn't stay in touch. Gerald was very talented and could master whatever interested him. Hubert Moore and I got to visit with Gerald last Summer. He was the same ole Gerald who we spent so much time with in Greenwood growing up. To lose our best friend saddens me greatly. Gerald was a great friend from the fifth grade forward. He was also a distant cousin. He, Jerry Wexler and I had some of the best times in our young lives, getting into plenty of mischief over the years. From bicycles to motorcycles and guitars and cars we were true amigos. Rest well, my friend. My sincere condolences to your family.
