SLOCUM TWP. — Gerald F. Wolfe, 86, of Slocum, died on Sept. 19, 2021, at Commonwealth Health Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Gerald was born in Blytheburn, went to a one-room school and graduated from Fairview High School. Gerald was drafted and spent two years driving a tank in West Berlin during the Berlin Crisis. Gerald worked at Eberhard Faber, Sandvik Steel, Midway Tool and retired from Cornell Iron Works. Gerald attended Faith UM Church. He enjoyed sports, hunting and NASCAR Races. Gerald always had a big garden and with Nick mowed the Stairville cemetery by hand for years. In 2009 after getting a shot in the knee, his kidneys failed and he was on dialysis for 12 years. Jerry and Jane walked over a mile a day down at the Slocum Park or around the fields at home until a few years ago.
Gerald is survived by his wife of 60 years Jane (George) Wolfe; sons, Michael and Cindy Wolfe, Gerald "Jerry" and Carrie Wolfe; grandchildren, Jennifer Rufano and Kevin Wolfe; three great-grandchildren, Layla, Khloe and Melina Rufano. Gerald is survived by his sister, Dolores Dempkoski. Gerald and Jane had many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Gerald is preceded in death by his sister, Alice (James) Butler; brothers, Earl (Lois) Wolfe, Robert (Dorothy) Wolfe; brother-in-law, Stanley Dempkoski; sister-in-law, Jean Martin; brother-in-law, James (Nina) George.
The family would like to thank the following people: Billy and Mary Martin; Pete Webby who brought Gerald home when Jane was afraid of the snow or ill. Thanks to all the staff at Fresenius Kidney Care in Nanticoke who took such good care of him for so many years, helping him to the car and carrying his bag the last few years. Thanks to Jason Baron who for all the years would plow the driveway so Jerry could get the truck out for dialysis. Thanks to Brenda and Ira Stein who kept the Slocum Park so safe and beautiful so people could walk in all weather. Thank you to all the doctors, nurses and all who took care of Gerald.
There will be viewing for an hour on Friday, Sept. 24, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. Pastor Scott Miller will officiate the service for Gerald at McCune Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Stairville cemetery, if you cannot make it to the graveside, please go to the basement of the church for coffee, luncheon will be serviced after the interment service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Slocum Twp. Vol. Fire & Ambulance Company 1923 Slocum Road, Wapwallopen, PA 18660. Masks are required.
