Geisen-Carlisle Funeral & Cremation Services Obituary

Geraldine “Jerry” Lynn peacefully departed this plane on Friday, February 3, 2017 at the age of 92.  Jerry was born on August 7, 1924 in Ashton, Iowa to Morris and Ida (Lottman) Mallory who preceded her in death.

She is also preceded in death by her beloved husband:  Samuel Lynn; devoted daughter:  Lee Lynn Walker; sister:  Maureen; brothers:  Dale and Edwin and niece Jeanne.

Jerry is survived by her sister-in-law:  Jadzia Mallory; son-in-law: T.J. Walker; and numerous nieces:  Lynda (Kol), Deanne, Tammy, Teresa and nephews:  Ed, Gary, Mickey, Paul, Lynn and Bob.

She was a resident of Michigan City, IN for over 60 years.  Jerry’s dedication to education started in a one room school house in Iowa in 1945.  By 1956, she was in Michigan City beginning what would be 31 years of service to area schools-initially in regular classrooms.  Jerry pioneered the city’s first program for the mildly mentally handicapped and in 1972, a program for the learning disabled.

Her ideas, experiments and successes made her one of Indiana’s leaders in special education.  In 1986 she was named “Outstanding Teacher of the Year” by the Indiana Federation Council for Exceptional Children, for which she had served as president 1967-1968.

Deepest gratitude is extended to the entire Weninger clan for their many years of love and support for their “second mother” Jerry.

Jerry was extremely loving and generous of spirit and blessed with a deep personal faith.  She will be greatly missed.

Private arrangements have been entrusted to Geisen-Carlisle Funeral & Cremation Services, 613 Washington St. Michigan City, IN 46360.

Not sure what to say?

Jerry was a wonderful woman, she lived next door to my Mother for years and was like an Aunt to me. She will always be remembered and never forgotten!! I loved her. RIP Jerry Lynn.

What an honor to have loved and been loved by my Auntie Jerry for the six long decades we both walked this earth. She was always intensely bright, energetic, principled, inspired and loving.

As a little girl, it was always high adventure for me and my brothers to visit Aunt Jerry and Uncle Sam at their home in Michigan City. We loved hearing their stories, exploring the orchard and the huge mysterious boat parked beside the railroad tracks, learning about the antique treasures...

I use to walk to Central School to be a h.s. student cadet teacher in Jerry's classsroom in 1964-65. I became a special education teacher, and spent 34 years teaching at MCAS, primarily in the elementary schools. Her influence of kindness, firmness, and teaching practical skills stayed with me forever, and inspired me to become a teacher of students with special needs. Prior to meeting Jerry, I had Sam for a math teacher and also, a lunch hour supervisor. I loved them both very much....

Jerry was such a sweet lady whom I knew from the time I was 10-1/2. When her and Sam moved in next door to my parents it was always like having another Aunt and Uncle. She will be dearly missed. Loved spending time with her. She is at peace now and Blessings to the family!!! Will miss her dearly. Love, to the family.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Jerry. She will be greatly missed. It was a pleasure to have gotten to know her.
