TOMPKINS, Geraldine L. - Of Flint and Houghton Lake, age 70, died Saturday, June 25, 2011 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. Burial in Flint Memorial Park following service. Those desiring may make contributions to a charity of one's choice. Visitation 10 a.m. Tuesday until the time of the service at the funeral home. Gerry was born in Jackson, Michigan on April 26, 1941, the daughter of the late Orval and Wavel (Bruce) Dyer. Gerry graduated from Beecher High School Class of 1959 and received her LPN Degree. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #629, Women's International Bowling Conference and Senior Softball League. Gerry enjoyed bowling, Bingo, softball, gambling, reading and playing cards. Gerry was employed by both McLaren and Hurley as a Scrub Nurse until 1984, at which time she became self-employed in the tire business. Surviving are two loving grandsons, Douglas Tompkins and Chad Tompkins, both of Flint; great-granddaughter, Jade Alyssa Tompkins; daughter-in-law, Noreen Davis of Flint; two brothers, Donald and wife Evelyn Dyer of Clio, Lawrence C. and wife Margaret Dyer of Flushing; sister-in-law, Diane Dyer; best friend, Lee Mangiaracina and family of Fenton; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Douglas Roland Tompkins in 1988; brother, Ronald Dyer and sister-in-law, Elaine Dyer. Your condolences may be shared with the family at swartzfuneralhomeinc.com.
